Role Summary

The Mileage Plan Accountant is responsible for developing solutions to supports the Mileage Plan team with month-end accounting duties, including recording complex journal entries and owning balance sheet account reconciliations at Alaska Air. As an individual contributor, this role makes recommendations to improve and be responsible for settlement and balancing of amounts owed or due to external Mileage Plan partners.

Key Duties

  • Supports the Mileage Plan accounting team on month-end close accounting functions by owning complex account reconciliations and related journal entries.
  • Executes settlement and accounting for partner airline loyalty activity and serves as point of contact for remediation of identified imbalances with external parties.
  • Reviews contracts with loyalty partners to identify and account for critical settlement terms.
  • Reconciles mileage activity as invoiced, including the co-brand credit card partner, hotels and other partners as identified.
  • Assists in the preparation of month-end reporting deliverables and other ad-hoc reporting as requested.
  • Partners with the Mileage Plan principal to complete critical accounting assumptions annually, or other ad-hoc plan updates as required.
  • Continuously improves the account reconciliation process, including identifying automation opportunities to ensure efficiency and promote productivity.
  • Collaborates with external auditors to answer questions or provide details in support of Air Group’s annual financial statement audit.
  • Collaborates with Mileage Plan and SOX teams to provide input and updates to SOX narratives and controls.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 1 year of experience in public accounting, or 2 years of experience in accounting or related area.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in accounting or related discipline, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Strong GAAP knowledge, specifically in ASC606.
  • A self-starter who willingly takes initiative and accepts responsibility.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize workloads under pressure.
  • Excellent critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills and a process improvement mindset.
  • Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to work cross-divisionally and to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, with advanced Excel capabilities.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Big 4 or other regional public accounting experience.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft financials and Blackline.

Salary Range

$61,600 - $92,400 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees.
