Job description
As a rater for Sentry you’ll work as part of our Hortica business unit to utilize automated and manual rating systems to rate quotes, new business, renewals, endorsements and audits. You will help to determine our customer’s premiums for a given risk through calculations and input of data into our rating modules.

To best support our associates and our culture, Sentry is happy to offer flexible work through scheduled work from home days on Mondays and Fridays and in-office Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays at our Hortica office located in Edwardsville, IL.
What You’ll Do
- Rate, code, calculate and produce documents for all CL policy types manually or by completing input into SCORPIO rating modules, based on instructions from underwriting, customer service and grids
- Utilize such manuals, rating plans, schedules, systems and information as necessary to determine premium for a given casualty or property risk
- May use Excel spreadsheets to calculate manually rated coverages
- Communicate with Bureaus to secure or convey information essential to rating
- Maintain an awareness of state insurance laws and regulations and the need for company compliance as identified in procedure bulletins and manuals
- May be responsible for the proper assembly and release of insurance policies and documents to producers and/or customers
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned from time to time
What it Takes
- Associate Degree or equivalent work experience
- Mathematical background, keyboard skills, calculator skill sand PC knowledge
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Organizational and human relation skills
- Ability to meet service standards while maintaining quality
- Insurance coursework beneficial
