Position: ICP-MS Chemist
Location: USA | Easton, Pennsylvania

This is considered a safety sensitive position therefore will be subject to random drug testing as required.

The ICP-MS Chemist performs work of a varied nature and is responsible for making some of and implementing most of the decisions relevant to the areas of mineral characterizations. The incumbent is expected to require minimal supervision in accomplishing these duties.
Responsibilities:
The primary duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Technical:
  • Provides the chemical and physical analyses of a variety of routine to complex samples.
  • Operation and routine calibration / maintenance of standard laboratory equipment including the ICP-MS, ICP-OES, XRF Instruments, Carbon Analyzer, Milling equipment, Muffle Furnace, various Lab Crushers, Splitters, and Sieve Analysis devices.
  • Performs other chemistry tasks (e.g., acid digestions, wet chemical and gravimetric methods)
  • Verify calibration of balances, volumetric and temperature
  • Maintenance/cleaning of Lab instrument and equipment.
  • Maintains consumable supplies.
  • Maintains records for quality and safety programs.
  • Maintains expertise in testing procedures and instrumentation through educational courses, literature, scientific conferences, professional societies, field contacts, customer feedback, and laboratory work.
  • Performs and oversees research as necessary to examine the suitability of test procedures and makes recommendations concerning the addition, modification, or replacement of test procedures and equipment. Conducts research necessary to solve unique problems as directed.
  • Issues timely oral and written technical reports of investigations including conclusions and interpretations with the goal of solving technical problems using ingenuity and creativity to provide these technical solutions. Must be able to collaborate in a team environment that encompasses multiple technologies.
  • Trains others and provides training resources as required.
  • Maintains a general knowledge of the technology related to the analysis and use of MTI products.
  • Regulatory evaluation, correspondence, knowledge gathering
  • Gain experience of ISO 17025 quality management system, Operation Excellence and Lean Service.

Customer Service:
  • Maintains a continuous dialogue with clients to ensure that there is a clear and complete understanding of the customer's expectations, including but not limited to, the problem to be solved, the approach to solution, and the completion date.
  • Works closely with other Analytical Services Group members in a unified team effort.

Continuous Improvement:
  • Actively supports a total quality philosophy and the continuous improvement theme. 2) Develops, implements and maintains a quality plan to ensure that the data are accurate, and defensible per requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
Qualifications:
Education:
  • Requires B.S. in area of science preferably geology or chemistry.
Experience:
  • 2 to 5 years hands-on experience in ICP-MS, and ICP-OES is required. XRF is desired.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Computer skills requiring Microsoft Word, Excel (required), and LIMS.
  • Experience with inorganic elemental digestions.
  • The individual must have the ability to observe the work environment, collect data and independently solve problems or make recommendations for correcting identified deficiencies. The individual must have good time management skills to perform sample preparation and analysis in a timely fashion.
  • The individual must be capable of working under minimum supervision.
  • Self-motivated individual who possesses the ability to analyze, organize, plan, prioritize assignments and multi-task.
  • Ability to develop realistic/achievable action plans to support organizational objectives and strategies.
  • Knowledgeable/familiarity in the areas of lean and Operation Excellence.
  • ISO/IEC 17025 accredited service environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulated minerals is highly desired.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to access data from and input information into computing equipment
  • Ability to manipulate equipment and materials weighing 30-50 pounds.
  • The ability to operate analytical instrumentation and sample preparation equipment, some of which requires fine motor skills (dexterity).
  • May be required to work with hazardous materials.
