Job Description
This position provides technical assistance (TA), information, and referrals to callers within the Southeast ADA Center service area who are seeking guidance on their rights and responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other disability rights laws. This position requires an in-depth understanding of disability rights laws and the ability to clearly and concisely articulate information in a variety of formats to customers seeking guidance. The position also collaborates with the ADA National Network’s [ADANN] TA committee to develop quarterly training for ADANN technical assistance specialists and to recommend and develop ADANN fact sheets/quick tips and other informational documents.

This position is anticipated to be filled on a fully remote basis. Not all geographical areas within the United States are eligible. Qualified candidate preferred to reside within the Southeast ADA region (AL, FL, GA, KY, MS, NC, SC, TN). Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree minimum, Master’s degree in Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling, Education, or Laws preferred.
  • Five years of experience as an ADA coordinator.

Job Specific Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of the ADA and other disability rights laws including the Fair Housing Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Olmstead Decision, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and the Air Carriers Access Act.
  • Background in acquired disability and aging issues, social security eligibility and benefits process, Medicaid/Medicare benefits, and home and community-based service requirements preferred.
  • Experience in conducting legal research and application of law to factual situations, specifically civil and disability rights laws.
  • Competency in using computer programs for word processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, to design program spreadsheets, databases, and custom reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgement, discretion, and sound decision-making.
  • Experience advising businesses, state and local governments, individuals on ADA and other federal law for effective customer service.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills with good interpersonal skills such as advising, recommending, directing, or delegating, exchanging information via verbal and written communication, influencing, and problem-solving.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance, information, and referrals to callers and inquiries received via phone, email, website inquiries, social media, and U.S. postal service. Provide TA support to SEADA affiliates for tricky TA, training, and media inquiries. Review ADA TA and training materials for accuracy. Develop technical assistance materials, e.g. letter templates, fact sheets, resource sheets, to use during TA interactions.


  • Participate in the ADA National Network’s [ADANN] Technical Assistance Committee monthly planning calls, collaborate in developing and facilitating national TA staff training opportunities, and providing TA support to the ADA National TA Network specialists.

  • Assist SEADA Center staff with center activities for topics such as media inquiries, TA question assistance, review of documents and training materials, handling overflow TA calls, and supporting development of SEADA Center’s ADA Live! podcast.

  • Actively participate and contribute to internal SEADA workgroup meetings. Chair the SEADA senior outreach workgroup and develop a plan for continued outreach to Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRC), Area Agencies on Aging (AAA), and other groups engaging older Americans. Outreach will include training, material guidance, and development. Chair the SEADA TA workgroup. Develop agendas, conduct monthly meetings. Participate in monthly affiliate meetings, presenting an ADA scenario for evaluation by our affiliates. Attend monthly SEADA and BBI staff meetings.

  • Assist in quarterly and annual grant reporting related to technical assistance activities and senior outreach, maintaining accurate records on a continuous basis.
