Job description
Reports directly to the assigned Assistant Chief as an agent for the SCDC Office of Inspector General - Regional Unit. A regional agent:
  • Actively participates in the detection of crime and enforcement of criminal laws for the SC Department of Corrections.
  • Plans, conducts, and completes criminal and/or administrative investigations or conducts portions of an investigation with other agents.
  • Performs tasks supporting other law enforcement agencies as requested.
  • Assists both local and state law enforcement agencies as requested and assigned.
  • Obtains and serves warrants.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required law enforcement experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements: (Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).
  • A bachelor's degree ad one (1) year experience in law enforcement;
OR
  • An associate degree and two (2) years’ experience in law enforcement;
OR
  • A high school diploma and three (3) years’ experience in law enforcement.

Required certification: certification by the law enforcement training council in accordance with 23-23-40 of the code of laws of South Carolina 1976 which requires either current Class 1 certification by the SCCJA or class 1 certification by the SCCJA within one (1) year of employment.

Incumbent must satisfactorily complete all academic and on the job training by the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
