This is what you will do:

The LAR Technician III will collaborate with LAR staff and vivarium management to oversee the daily health and wellbeing of Alexion research animals. As a LAR Technician III within the Rare Disease Unit (RDU) you will work closely with the colony management lead to ensure colony management for scientific needs. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up to date health and breeding colony records. In this role you will assist vivarium management in maintaining inspection readiness.


You will be responsible for:

  • Be responsible for daily animal health and welfare observations in adherence to Alexion Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) and animal use protocols.
  • Perform daily husbandry duties to ensure research animals have access to fresh clean water, bedding, food, and enrichment.
  • Maintain up to date animal health records within the tick@lab management system.
  • Execute weekly animal census audits to ensure tick@lab management system is maintained accurately.
  • Perform daily cage wash responsibilities
  • Execute routine room sanitations within the vivarium
  • Assist with restocking and inventory management.
  • Collaborate with LAR study to assist with restraint, handling, and manipulation of animals in support of in-vivo studies.
  • Receive and observe incoming animals to ensure compliance with vivarium biosecurity.
  • Act as escort for external contractors when needed.
  • Collaborate with the Colony Management Lead to maintain on site breeding colonies to meet scientific needs.
  • Maintain accurate breeding records and genotyping results in tick@lab.
  • Assist with inspection readiness.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

You will need to have:

  • Team Player, able to work in a cross-functional global environment.

  • Possess a positive, adaptable, and solution-oriented attitude
  • Have the ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Be willing to work a 40hr week with weekend and holiday requirements on a rotational basis.
  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in a lab environment. As is typical of a lab-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: lift/carry 15/30 pounds unassisted/assisted; work comfortably in a controlled environment with and around biological, infectious, and hazardous materials; gown/degown PPE; use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.

We would prefer for you to have:

  • High school diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.) or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in animal or life sciences field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in an AAALAC accredited facility
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above
  • AALAS Certified as ALAT or willingness to certify within two years of hire date
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office software including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Smartsheets
