Responsibilities


POSITION SUMMARY:
This position provides direct research support at the professional level, and directly participates in all major aspects of research projects under the supervision of Dr. Stephen Hammes. The department provides a state-of-the-art research program/facility in the areas of endocrinology, metabolism and drug discovery. This position requires active participation in management of day-to-day operations of the lab including procurement of lab supplies, mouse colony management, conducting experiments and helping other members of the lab conduct and analyze experiments. A candidate with research skills/experience including mouse handling, and cellular and molecular biology techniques is ideal for this job. Moreover, self-motivation, passion and dedication for science, organizational skills, excellent interpersonal, verbal and written English skills are essential for this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Helps with mouse colony, including routine and non-routine breeding colonies, genotyping, tissue collection and other experiments as needed. Plans and performs specialized procedures on mice, and maintaining records, data collection, and analysis.
  • Plans and performs ELISA, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, RT-PCR, cell culture, bone marrow cultures, proliferation, migration, and invasion assays, or related techniques as needed
  • Assists fellows, students, and trainees in the methods and techniques used in the lab.
  • Maintains standard protocols, troubleshooting, and modifying them as needed.
  • Helps maintain reagents inventory and ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Assists in the preparation of posters, manuscripts and grants.

Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in appropriate discipline required.
  • 2 -3 years’ experience; Or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Candidate must be willing to work with mice. Experience in Microsoft Office is required strongly preferred.
  • Strong Attention to detail, interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written strongly preferred.
