Resident Care Director Job Description

The Resident Care Director (RCD) is responsible for the ongoing operations of the nursing program of Tockwotton’s assisted living community, and includes responsibility for the recruiting, training and supervision of all nursing personnel. He/she manages the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing care delivery system within the assisted living community. He/she puts individualized resident service first in the context of a team approach to delivery of both nursing and non-nursing services, and promotes this goal actively with all staff.

He/she ensures that residents and their families receive exceptionally good individualized care in a compassionate atmosphere that recognizes individuals' needs and rights. Ultimately responsible for assuring that nursing personnel follow established Tockwotton policies and procedures at all times.

The duties and responsibilities outlined below may or will be delegated as needed to other nursing staff, but the RCD remains responsible for the extent and quality of all services delivered by nursing personnel in the assisted living community. He/she is responsible for quality assurance within the nursing program, and for making systematic efforts to assure that prompt reporting of threats to resident health or welfare occurs.

The position of RCD is a full time salaried, management position with responsibility for the performance of nursing staff and the provision of nursing services on a 24 hour/7 day basis throughout the year. The RCD needs to be available by telephone 24/7 unless adequate arrangements are made for the supervision of staff and the provision of resident services by other personnel. The RCD normally works a daily Monday-to-Friday schedule, but this may be subject to change from time to time. He/she may need to be on duty at night or on weekends from time to time in order to accomplish all goals.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Must be a licensed registered nurse or practical nurse
  • 3-5 years of experience in a skilled healthcare facility or retirement facility preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Must be able to meet minimum physical requirements as required by community policies
  • Flexible schedule, including availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Must enjoy working with the senior community
  • COVID-19 Vaccine Required
