The Pharmacist, Clinical Operations’ main duty is to interpret physicians' prescriptions, contact doctors or other prescribers and/or patients to verify information on prescriptions and expedite processing of orders. This role will perform a high volume of product verification both prior to order set up as well as immediately prior to shipment. The Pharmacist, Clinical Operations will also provide telephonic consults with patients regarding the use of their specialty medication and management of their disease state. They will routinely perform medication reconciliation and screen for potential drug interactions. This individual may take calls from customers regarding issues, lost orders or dispensing errors, maintain daily production, quality and service levels, and vary work priorities and activities to accommodate business needs. The Pharmacist, Clinical Operations may also train less experienced pharmacists and mentor pharmacy interns/students.

The Pharmacist, Clinical Operations solves complex problems and takes a new perspective using existing solutions. The individual in this position works independently with minimal guidance and represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues.

How do I make an impact on my team?

  • Verifies prescriptions for pharmaceutical preparations and devices for patients at company facilities; maintains accurate and detailed records of all prescription transactions, and submits appropriate claims for third-party reimbursement; consults with physicians and nurses regarding pharmaceutical questions; advises physicians on formulary medications and cost-effective and innovative therapies; answers pharmaceutical questions from patients and staff; monitors storage, distribution, and use of pharmaceuticals.
  • Provide oversight and quality assurance to pharmacy technicians. Interpret physicians' or prescribers' prescriptions. Contact providers and/or patients to verify information on prescriptions such as drug strength, prescription signatures, and drug name in order to expedite processing of orders. Verify and confirm validity of controlled substances.
  • Verify prescription information entered in the system by data entry or order entry. Contact physicians for new and/or transfer authorization. Work with physicians to convert prescriptions to generic or preferred drugs whenever possible.
  • Consult with patients regarding the use of medications and potential drug interactions.
  • Ability to provide clear, detailed clinical documentation of patient consultations and interventions in pharmacy software and EMR systems.
  • Back up other pharmacists as needed, perform additional duties as assigned by management, or train less experienced pharmacists, interns, and students.
  • Document and report medication errors in accordance with company policies and manufacturer contracts. Facilitate error reduction and prevention methods based off errors and ISMP standards. Adhere to all Lumicera pharmacovigilance standards.

  • Contribute to the quality management program through daily operations and efforts toward sustaining key pharmacy performance metrics. Participation in quality improvement activities through routinely sharing ideas for improvements or implementing improvement opportunities with supervisors or quality team members.
  • Participate in on-call services as needed to accommodate business needs.

What our team expects from you?

  • Graduate of ACPE Accreditation School of Pharmacy with a B.S. Pharmacy or Pharm.D, degree
  • Current, unrestricted Pharmacist license in state where any on-site pharmacy work will be conducted; must continually maintain education credits to maintain active licensure
  • Minimum of two years as a licensed Pharmacist preferred.
  • Specialty Pharmacy experience or solid understanding of specialty pharmacy drugs including REMS and Limited Distribution Products best practices preferred
  • Participate in, adhere to, and support compliance program objectives
  • The ability to consistently interact cooperatively and respectfully with other employees
