Job Summary:
Responsible for a variety of tasks including reviewing medical records requests, issuing medical files, filing medical records.

The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of medical terminology, processes, and administrative duties. To excel in this position, you should also demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Gather patient demographic and personal information
  • Issue medical files to persons and agencies according to laws and regulations.
  • Check for patient identifying information on all documents
  • Verify patient consent forms on all records requests
  • Receive and send subpoena to Compliance Officer
  • Scan/Upload medical records/reports into EMR
  • Send out requests for records when presented with a properly completed medical release.
  • Issue medical records to persons and agencies according to HIPAA Regulations
  • Make sure all medical records are protected and kept confidential
  • Answer telephone inquiries concerning medical records functions.
  • Prepare written correspondence as necessary
  • Respects patient confidentiality with a thorough understanding of the HIPAA/HITECH laws
  • Other Duties as needed
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • High School Diploma required
  • Computer skills: EMR software experience; proficient with Microsoft products (Word/Excel/Outlook)
  • Proficient in HIPAA/HITECH Rules and Regulations

  • Strong verbal/written communications
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize tasks in order to complete assignments within the time allotted and maintain standard workflow
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and coworkers
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and protected patient information
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player and provide superior customer service to all staff and leadership
