Position Objective:

Xerox Corp., an industry leader in Color Printing, is looking for a talented and passionate Design Engineer to join our Printhead R&D team in Wilsonville, OR.

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, re-design and development of cutting edge printheads and ink supply systems for our next generation printheads. The products consist of metal plates, ceramic actuators, cast metals, injection molded plastics, sheet metal, thermoplastics, and many other electro-mechanical components. This role will participate in a cross-functional team throughout the design and development of these printheads, interfacing with the Product Development, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and Marketing groups. You’ll be expected to develop mechanical components and technology strategies thru conception to production.

Role may also include evaluating products, parts, or processes for cost efficiency and reliability and ensure project completion. You will work alongside other members of the engineering and operations staff to ensure that products are developed to meet all performance and quality standards in a timely manner. The successful candidate will also rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The ability to perform a variety of tasks where a wide degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Essential Functions:

Quality:

  • Actively pursues continuous improvement and ease of doing business to meet or exceed customer needs.
  • Develops procedures and processes that lead to reliable designs.
  • Understands and uses the philosophy and tools of total quality, lean manufacturing, and design for manufacturability.

New Product Development:

  • Researches and develops core technologies required by Xerox to sustain or improve its competitive lead.
  • Designs, develops, analyzes and documents product designs which meet the functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability and safety requirements of Xerox.
  • Acquires and applies skills necessary to design, develop and introduce new products with the greatest possible design margins and in the shortest amount of time.
  • Identifies, quantifies, and implements tools, methods, processes and equipment which improve the quality, reliability and productivity of the department.

Communication and Leadership:

  • Effectively communicates information to co-workers, customers and suppliers required to do their jobs. This communication must be objective and accomplished in a neutral to positive manner.
  • Serves as a project team member throughout the New Product Development process, will be responsible for meeting project and product goals.

Qualifications Desired:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Advanced degree highly desirable.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of product design/engineering experience, including the use of standard mechanical engineering analysis and software (i.e. FEA, kinematics and tolerance analysis).
  • Design for manufacturability and assembly.
  • Design and manufacture of plastic molded parts.
  • Design and manufacture of sheet metal and cast metals.
  • Experience with Siemens NX a plus.

Skills:

  • Able to analyze components and assemblies for static and fatigue strength to meet design goals.
  • Proven problem-solving skills that demonstrate ability to identify, quantify, and resolve problems.
  • Ability to handle simultaneous tasks in an environment which can be stressful at times.
  • Experience with Windows based PC's and standard software applications including Excel and Word.
  • Candidate should be able to positively communicate with customers (internal and external), to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Works in normal office conditions, Occasional work in assembly process areas, Occasional work in mechanical model shop, and Occasional external customer interface.
