Job Summary:

The role of Labor Systems Data Solutions Manager is to lead the sustainment, optimization, integration, and advancement of technology and processes used to manage the complex labor needs for Walt Disney World, Disneyland Resort, Aulani, and associated businesses (Disney Vacation Club, Disney Cruise Line Shoreside, Facility and Operations Services).Combined, these businesses schedule and pay > 100K Cast Members per week using over 30 different labor agreements with unique rules encompassing labor budgets that exceed 2.5B annually.

The Labor Systems team has a commitment to provide meaningful business insights to advance business goals; we pledge to provide a center of excellence for integrated data solutions, data science, business automation, and software architecture. With focus on:

  • Evangelism and implementation of advanced data engineering and data science practices.
  • Advancing software engineering and architecture practices.
  • Supporting the Labor Demand Planning System (LDPS) and advancing the capabilities of the system.

You will fill a critical leadership role on our team by leading the design, development, and implementation of various software and data solutions. We are looking for people with an unwavering appetite and curiosity for learning new technologies, and a passion for emerging technology.

Position Responsibilities

The focus of this position includes:

  • Lead the design, development, testing and implementation of Workforce Management solutions that leverage data from core labor systems with additional automation, reporting, and/or data visualization components.
  • Provide nimble, intuitive, and low maintenance solutions for complex and time consuming problems.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts on internal and external processes for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Lead roadmap efforts for data advancement and infrastructure improvement to achieve short-, mid- and long-term goals powered by scalable and sustainable information sources for segment data.
  • Lead a highly motivated, efficient team of analysts and developers, including coaching and development.
  • Lead collaboration with system, data, and analytics end-users to understand opportunities for new capabilities in information, data, analytics, and reporting.
  • Ensure Disney IT security standards on application development, servers, and databases are upheld.
  • Daily management of applications in production; provide support and daily engineering support integrated with operations and customer support teams.
  • Develop strong working relationships with key partners, clients, and third party vendors whose collective goal is to ensure accurate and reliable data pipelines.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant technology and analytical methods. This may involve attending seminars, training events and reading relevant journals and documentation.
  • Responsible for operational and functional integrity of the Labor Systems supported applications: setting and meeting SLA’s; continuous improvement in quality and performance; developing, monitoring and reporting on key operational and performance metrics.
  • Design and work with large data sets from multiple disparate data sources (current, and new) that are used to drive important financial and operational decisions.
  • Lead integrated collaboration with system clients and key partners to identify and implement efficiency opportunities with system and data processes.
  • Provide high-level estimation based on initial requirements.
  • Break large complex problems into small and testable tasks.
  • Think outside-the-box and ask probing questions to prompt creative thinking and innovative technical solutions.
  • Define coding process, standards, continuous integration and testing principles.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of database, analytics, and/or development experience.
  • 2+ years of technical leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated analytical, quantitative, creative problem solving, conceptual thinking, project management, continuous improvement, and technical skills.
  • Proven understanding of database design and architectural principles and methodologies.
  • At least one of the following:
  • Strong Programming skills using Python, C#, Angular, or Node.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data processing engines such as Spark, and python data analysis libraries such as Tensorflow, Keras, or sci-kit-learn.
  • Solid understanding of data platforms such as Spark, Redshift, and Snowflake.
  • Solid understanding of build automation tools such as Jenkins, Cloud formation templates, Terraform, or GitLab runners.
  • Demonstrated communication skills with attention to details.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and/or projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to synthesize multiple data inputs to create an actionable story for clients.
  • Ability to work autonomously, make independent decisions, and react professionally to changing conditions.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of Cast and leaders to achieve project objectives.
  • Prioritization of multiple interdependent projects while monitoring and communicating progress.
  • Maintain relationships via strong inter-personal and communication skills and demonstrate independent follow thru on all commitments with minimum oversight.
  • Demonstrated experience developing solid relationships with various teams/partners to move work forward.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Labor Systems such as My Time, CDS, GEMS, EiSS, or LDPS.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Azure.
  • Ability to manage various timeline commitments.
  • Proactively identifies, analyzes, and drives problems to resolution, handling complex issues simultaneously while effectively communicating across teams.
  • Effectively communicates technical actions and expectations to the appropriate partners.
  • Strives to be the partner of choice by seeking and understanding client business needs, identifying appropriate technical solutions, and meeting/exceeding service expectations.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Information Technology, Data Science, or an equivalent field / work experience.
