Key Responsibilities:

The Manager of Cargo Cost Controls is a key leadership role in United Cargo. Responsibilities include ownership over $200M in operating expenses, labor contracts governing 4,000 vendor employees, and financial audit oversight of $300M in expenses. This role is directly accountable for implementing all financial controls over United Cargo’s operating budget for 100 vendors and serves as point during high-profile contract negotiations. Internally this position will be the top liaison between corporate finance, procurement, cargo operations, and cargo leadership on all matters relating to the operating budget. This role delicately balances the financial obligations of United Cargo, the needs of the operations, and the landscape of vendors to safeguard United Cargo’s place as the top belly cargo carrier in the world.

  • Cost Control: Drive cost controls to ensure compliance. Responsible for delivering on United Cargo’s Operating budgetary commitments via financial controls for $250M in operating expense, ensuring accurate forecasting, and budgeting, identifying/implementing creative ways to offset cost increases with efficiency gains, and holding operations accountable to their budget. Ensure cost is accurately accounted for in all Cargo decisions
  • Contract Execution: Lead business stakeholder for all handling contracts and a variety of operating contracts. Leads point during any contract negotiations and coordinating discussions between cargo ops, corporate finance, procurement, and cargo leadership. These complex contracts cover $200M in services spread out across 120 different vendors at 180 different airports. Ultimately responsible for ensuring vendors meet the commitments of their contracts and these contracts reflect the needs of the United Cargo business
  • Team Management: Tasked with directing a team in implementing all cost controls, finance presentations, negotiations, ops discussions, and procurement meetings. As a manager at United, this person will ensure the right talent is put in the right place to succeed. Also follows Core4 principles including employee development

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in analytical or business-related field (i.e., finance, mathematics, economics, statistics, accounting, etc.)
  • 5+ years’ experience in accounting, finance, operations, or business analytics
  • Experience with corporate financial oversight
  • Experience with ERP software (Oracle, Coupa, SAP)
  • Knowledge of corporate finance, financial auditing, project management, and contract negotiations
  • Strong ability to present financial data to partners of different levels
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal)
  • Analytical ability to complete complex financial reviews
  • Detailed orientated; can quickly digest very large contracts
  • Strong abilities in MS Office (PowerPoint & Excel)
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master’s Degree in analytical or business-related field, (i.e., MBA, MS Finance, MS Econ, etc.)
  • Corporate P&L responsibility
  • 7+ years’ experience in accounting, finance, operations, or business analytics
  • Knowledge of financial close/forecast cycles, labor market economics, and outsourced labor contracts
  • Strong negotiations skills
  • Technical ability to create statistically relevant forecasts
  • Skill in converting operational processes into contractual language
  • Strong ability/skills in analytical software (Tableau, SpotFire, Alteryx, R, SQL, Python, STATA, MatLab)
