HR Specialist

To assist in achieving the department’s and the company’s H.R. goals by performing administrative functions efficiently, as well as providing human services that promote a work environment characterized by fairness, empathy, personal accountability, and mutual respect.


OUTCOME: Administrative Functions

  • Enforces company policy and ensure compliance
  • Assists with disciplinary action when necessary
  • Manages temporary staffing
  • Maintains administrative functions and timekeeping
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities.

OUTCOME: Regulatory

  • Applies knowledge of legal requirements, company rules and procedures, and government reporting regulations affecting Human Resource functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance
  • Administers benefits programs such as life, health, dental, and disability insurances, retirement plans, vacation, leave of absence, unemployment compensation, and employee assistance.
  • Investigates company accidents and injuries, prepares reports to be used for insurance and for workers compensation cases.
  • Reconciles the daily physical number of employees with the timeclock records; investigates missing timekeeping records, reviews weekly payroll records to ensure accurate payment to employees.

OUTCOME: Staffing / Turnover

  • Requests information from law enforcement officials, previous employers, and other references to determine applicants’ employment acceptability. (reference checks)
  • Recruits, posts openings, interviews, assesses, tests, and assists in the selection of employees to fill vacant positions.
  • Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation
  • Conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations
  • Reconciles and reports temporary staffing statistics; notifies agency of any staffing changes; assists with communication issues between the employee and the agency.
  • Prepares newly assigned employees for their first day; sets them up in the timeclock system.

OUTCOME: Record Keeping / Accuracy / Clerical / Data Entry Duties

  • Records employee data, such as address, rate of pay, absences, benefit information, timekeeping, and changes in employee status and other personnel actions.
  • Keeps records of benefit plan participation such as insurance and retirement related plans, personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance appraisals, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting.
  • Keeps daily track of absentees; performs weekly attendance reviews, issues attendance warnings.
  • Maintains the physical filing system, answers company phone calls not made to direct lines, greets and assists visitors to the employee entrance, assists walk-in applicants, replenishes H.R. documents such as I-9, Time Off Request, and H.R. Services forms.

OUTCOME: Support Employment Staff

  • Answers questions regarding eligibility, salaries, benefits, rules, policies, procedures, and other working conditions.
  • Examines employee records to respond to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, programs, and personnel actions.
  • Manages difficult or emotional situations.
  • Treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position.
HR Specialist
  • Education and/or Experience: Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents; ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees and speak to all levels of employees. Ability to speak and/or understand other languages helpful.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of MS Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, etc., Internet software, and Human Resource systems.
  • PHR, CEBS certification helpful
  • Knowledge of practicing HR in manufacturing environment a plus.
  • Bi-lingual a plus
