Girls STEM Engineering Camp

The Macomb Intermediate School District is offering a Girls STEM summer camp. The course heavily emphasizes the engineering design process and using power tools and machines. The engineering challenge is Tinkering Toys where girls will get to deconstruct toys/ learn how they work and are assembled, redesign them, and then do a community outreach to give out the toys to younger kids in the Richmond community.

CAMP PROGRAM DATES:

July 17-20, 2023 (Monday-Thursday)

9:00am-2:00pm (Duration up to seven hours daily)

TARGET STUDENT POPULATION: Female students entering 6th and 7th Grade

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Teachers will attend MANDATORY TRAININGS on 6/22 or 6/23 in person at the Fillmore (15 Mile and Van Dyke). Time is TBD but will be 4-6 hours in length.

SET-UP DATE AND TIME: Teachers will be compensated for 4 hours of camp preparation prior to the start day of camp.

There will be no more than 15 students per class.

COMPENSATION:

Teachers will be compensated for 6 hours a day plus 1 hour of prep per day (7 total hours per day) @$25/hour contractual rate and an additional $15/ hour for summer hero covid pay = total rate $40.00/hour. Teachers will be compensated to attend the required professional development up to 6 hours depending on duration of training that is TBD.

STUDENT TIME:

9:00am to 2:00pm Monday -Thursday only

TEACHER TIME:

8:30am to 2:30pm Monday -Thursday only

QUALIFICATIONS FOR TEACHERS

1. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate

3. Enthusiastic, energetic, and positive professionals with a growth mindset


RESPONSIBILITIES FOR TEACHER

• Provide effective instructional methods based on a daily schedule outlined

in training

• Administer pre and post assessments
• Submit attendance records
• Plan appropriate instruction to support diverse student needs
• Submit payroll timesheets to Supervisor
