About the Role

The Exercise Physiologist is responsible for coordinating a multidisciplinary treatment plan to meet the clinical and educational needs of the population served. The Exercise Physiologist may perform pre-assessments and post-assessments to determine the appropriate course of exercises for the population served. The incumbent works with a multidisciplinary group of staff members requiring flexibility and adaptability to follow established program goals and protocols. Responsibilities may include EKG, blood pressure, oxygen saturation monitoring, and preparing medical doctors' interpretation reports. The Exercise Physiologist must possess the required technical skills and demonstrate knowledge and competency for performing treadmills, ellipticals, weight machines, bicycles, and other equipment specific to the department.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Routinely assists in the performance of department-specific programs, projects, or studies by collecting data and providing appropriate feedback.
  • Acts as a point of reference for Therapy Aides and/or Exercise Technician by providing information on activities designed for the department-specific programs, projects, or studies and instructions on how to use equipment.
  • Assists physicians, technologists, and nursing staff in performing exercises and other department-specific programs, projects, or studies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competency in obtaining accurate blood pressure and appropriate prescription of exercise routines.
  • Demonstrates ability to recognize serious adverse effects during exercise classes and responds with the appropriate action.
  • Identifies malfunctioning equipment and performs minor troubleshooting. Promptly coordinates the service of malfunctioning equipment such as treadmills, ellipticals, weight machines, bicycles, and other equipment specific to the department.
  • Performs duties with sensitivity and attention to the age and any developmental issues of the patient population(s) served.
  • Effectively communicates /explains procedures to the age-related population and makes adjustments accordingly.
  • Accountable for all applicable documentation relative to procedure performance and patient and family education.
  • Actively stays abreast of technology and protocol updates by completing competencies/training assigned by leadership and other organization-wide training.
  • May serve as a preceptor for students.
  • Participates in research programs determined by the department.
  • Actively participates in ongoing performance improvement projects specific to the stress lab.



Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in the field of Exercise Physiology, required.
  • Basic Life Support Certification, required.
  • One year of related experience, preferred.

Physical Demands:

Able to perform moderate lifting. Able to sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. Able to read papers and online documents. Able to operate standard office equipment. Able to exercise physical ability and perspective acuity to satisfactorily perform essential job functions.
