An ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) Tester is responsible for testing the data integration processes in an organization. ETL testers work closely with ETL developers to ensure that data is extracted from source systems, transformed according to business rules, and loaded into target systems accurately and efficiently.
Key responsibilities of an ETL Tester include:
- Testing ETL processes: The ETL Tester is responsible for testing the ETL processes in an organization. They validate that the data is extracted from source systems correctly, transformed according to business rules, and loaded into target systems accurately.
- Creating test plans and test cases: The ETL Tester creates test plans and test cases based on the ETL requirements and specifications. They design tests to ensure that the ETL processes meet the functional and non-functional requirements of the business.
- Analyzing data: The ETL Tester analyzes data to ensure that the ETL processes are working correctly. They verify that the data is transformed and loaded into the target system correctly and that data quality is maintained throughout the process.
- Troubleshooting issues: The ETL Tester troubleshoots issues that arise during testing. They identify the root cause of problems, work with ETL developers to resolve issues, and ensure that ETL processes are running smoothly.
- Documenting test results: The ETL Tester documents test results, including defects and issues found during testing. They provide feedback to ETL developers to improve the ETL processes.
- Required qualifications for an ETL Tester include:
- Experience with ETL tools: The ETL Tester should have experience with ETL tools such as Informatica, Talend, or DataStage. They should be familiar with ETL workflows, transformations, and mappings.
- Knowledge of databases and SQL: The ETL Tester should have a strong understanding of databases and SQL. They should be able to write SQL queries to validate data in source and target systems.
- Data analysis skills: The ETL Tester should have strong data analysis skills. They should be able to analyze complex data sets, identify data quality issues, and verify that data is transformed and loaded accurately.
- Attention to detail: The ETL Tester should have strong attention to detail. They should be able to identify defects and issues in ETL processes and ensure that they are resolved before the processes go into production.
- Communication skills: The ETL Tester should have excellent communication skills. They should be able to communicate effectively with ETL developers, business analysts, and stakeholders to ensure that ETL processes meet business requirements.
Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $105k depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
