Overview:

The Draftsman will create technical drawings based on given specifications and calculations and incorporate specifications into drawings and plans that may be used in the manufacture, maintenance or repair of the product or structure. The Draftsmen will use CAD systems to create, save and view their drawings and plans. Besides creating drawings, other duties of a Draftsman can include calculating structural strength, assessing building capacity limits and estimating construction costs.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform necessary structural calculations required to design Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices in accordance with ASME BTH-1-2011 and ASME B30.20
  • Review technical documentation and data from customer and outside sales representatives to determine if all required information is available to adequately design the lifting device
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for outside sales representatives in need of technical information
  • Utilize Solidworks to create 3D CAD Models and drawings complete with detailed dimensional and BOM information
  • Manage multiple projects from concept through completion including, but not limited to, engineering design, manufacturing drawings, providing purchasing information, communication with outside vendors, and technical guidance during fabrication and assembly
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with customers, outside sales representative, and cross-departmental team members
  • Participate in daily engineering and production meetings and provide support as necessary
  • Work directly with design engineers to produce drawings from sketches, existing drawings and electronic images
  • Calculate tolerance stack-ups to verify design fit-up
  • Design parts based on written and verbal descriptions from design engineers
  • Work closely with all departments in the plant to ensure that the drawings convey the correct information and are error free
  • Work from customer drawings, company drawings, government drawings or specifications
  • Other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications:

Education

A high school diploma or GED is required; An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university with a focus in Engineering, or related discipline is required; in the absence of a degree, directly related job experience serving in a draftsman role, where a number of years and proven knowledge may offset the degree requirement

Experience & Skills
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment in an engineering role
  • Experience in Solidworks, AutoCAD and an ERP system strongly preferred
  • Possess a working knowledge of all applicable manufacturers and industry standards (ASME and OSHA)
  • Requires solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
  • Strong analytical, conceptual and planning skills are required
  • Excellent math skills and overall PC literacy (Microsoft Office) is required
  • Must be detail oriented, self-motivated and disciplined with the ability to multi-task
