JOB TITLE: Fitness & Wellness Director

REPORTS TO: Director of Independent Living

SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Exempt Salary starting at 60,000.00 yearly


General Description: The Fitness & Wellness Director serves as the director of the Fitness Center and wellness initiative. This includes the execution and implementation of fitness and wellness programming to create a successful aging culture. The Director will share in the responsibility of teaching fitness classes at a level that allows for management duties to be completed. The Director will serve as a role model for health and well-being and must genuinely care for older adults and be able to assess their needs.


Essential Job Functions:

Fitness & Wellness Initiative

  • Lead the wellness initiative and provide oversight of staff and residents involved.
  • Promote fitness and wellness throughout the organization.
  • Utilize tools and resources of the wellness initiative for proper execution and compliance.
  • Create and teach land/aquatic classes emphasizing strength, flexibility and balance. Provide oversight of individual training.
  • Lead and provide oversight of individual fitness and wellness assessments.
  • Properly execute and analyze results of fitness and wellness assessments of individuals as well as the community as a whole
  • Promote and execute educational seminars on fitness and wellness.
  • Orient all new residents to the Fitness Center and wellness initiative.

Client/Customer Relations

  • Monitor programming for resident participation and satisfaction
  • Work with sales and marketing department to best communicate client’s wellness success
  • Promote fitness and wellness continuously through participants, newsletters, campus TV station, and community events.
  • Promote fitness and wellness for staff.
  • Provide opportunities for community outreach both on and off the Elim Park campus.

Leadership and Managerial Skills

  • Serve as key member of client management team
  • Manage the fitness/wellness center operations, including facilities, personnel, programs and budget.
  • Oversee the Life Enrichment Coordinator.
  • Interface proactively with department heads, client committees and resident committees to establish fitness and wellness applications and continuum of services (i.e. food service, activities, therapy, etc.)
  • Provide a schedule that is appropriate for the retirement community

Quality Measurements

  • Track outcomes and attendance of enrollees in the Fitness Center and the wellness initiative and monitor programming for participation and satisfaction.
  • Develop and implement measurement tools and evaluation of the wellness initiative.
  • Analyze, document and track measurable outcomes and use information for further development of fitness, wellness and Life Enrichment programs
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Attend wellness conferences and maintain certification(s).

Financial

  • Manage the fiscal aspects of the department including budgeting, purchasing, billing and deposits.
  • Develop the annual budget for the Wellness Department

Work Area and Working Conditions:.

  • Exposure to water and pool chemicals in the pool area.
  • Frequently exposed to temperature and humidity changes
  • Subject to frequent interruptions
  • Moderate noise level

Entry Level Qualifications:

B.S. in Exercise Science or degree in related discipline (i.e. exercise physiology, physical education) and/or relevant continuing education and professional experience. Certification with ACSM, ACE, or AFAA is required. Experience as a Fitness/Wellness Director, assistant to a Fitness/Wellness director, or three years minimum experience as a group fitness instructor and/or personal trainer. Previous experience with the older adult population a plus.


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be of good physical and mental health
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and perform exercise moves on land and in the water.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stretch, reach balance, squat, kneel or lay on the floor.
  • Must be able to be on feet for up to one hour at a time.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
