Summary
The Director of Development spearheads the fundraising, community partnership efforts, marketing, and engagement initiatives of the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society (WVHS) as it continues to expand its services and leadership in Chelan & Douglas County. The Director of Development plays a key role in the financial health and growth of the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society. Their responsibilities include focusing on relationship-based fundraising and maintaining strong connections to existing individual donors and corporate donors while seeking out and engaging new donors and supporters to secure and expand WVHS’s fundraising potential. They are responsible for the management, supervision, and professional growth of the Development and Communications team. They work closely with and report to the Executive Director, serve on the leadership team with other managers, and, at times, serve as a resource for WVHS’s Board of Directors.

Essential Functions
1. Serve as an excellent ambassador for WVHS, helping donors and potential donors connect with opportunities that matter to them and WVHS. a. Promotes a humane and caring attitude toward all animals and treats all animals with respect and compassion at all times. b. Treats people with respect; contributes to effective teamwork; fosters good public relations beneficial to the organization and its programs. c. Works courteously and cooperatively with staff, volunteers, and board members to ensure that all established procedures and policies of the organization are followed. d. Establishes strong, professional relationships with donors and stakeholders who support the organization.

2. Serve as a courageous front-line solicitor who will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gifts and planned giving prospects appropriately and deliberately.

3. Develop, maintain and nurture relationships in a strategic manner by creating and implementing donor-centric moves for donor acquisition, cultivation and retention.

4. Develop annual development and marketing/communications plans to increase WVHS’s donors and audience to ensure ongoing support, awareness, engagement, and education.

5. Manage a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects.

6. Facilitate Executive Director’s development activity with donors, prospects, and at events.

7. Stay abreast of changes and innovations in federal and state tax laws that may be relevant to major gifts prospects

8. Lead, supervise, and encourage WVHS’s development and marketing team; recruit, develop and maintain top talent.

9. Ensure that development policies and procedures are upheld.

10. Ensure proper documentation in Raiser's Edge (RE) to track and report relationship management, donations and solicitation. a. Responsible for all aspects of RE, the online fundraising and donor management solution (CRM) currently used by WVHS. Responsible for maintaining complete and accurate data and working with Blackbaud on any issue resolution. b. Manage email database, and email correspondence with donors. c. Serve as a point of contact for all donors and ensure regular communications. d. Proactively network with the community, leading to pipeline development and solicitations for new donors and other opportunities.

11. Developing a broad understanding of WVHS’s departments, programs, and services sufficient to assist donors, collaborate effectively with peers, and ensure excellent communication and teamwork among departments (Community Solutions, Behavior, Foster, Adoptions, Animal Care, and Medical).

12. Assist with special projects and perform other related duties as required.

13. Plays a leadership role on the Fundraising Committee, attending monthly meetings, prepare agendas and presenting reports to the Board.

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
1. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Associate’s degree with relevant experience considered.
2. At least 3 (we state 4 years experience in summary) years of development experience (donor acquisition, cultivation, and management, as well as fundraising events) as well as experience in developing an integrated Development Plan with metrics.

3. Experience with fundraising and donor management platform (CRM software) required (Blackbaud Raiser's Edge experience preferred).

4. Major and/or planned gifts experience preferred.
5. Successful grant-writing experience preferred.
6. Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and must be detail-oriented.
7. Proficiency with social media platforms and analytics (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok preferred). Photography and/or videography skills are a plus.
8. Demonstrates excellent skills in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat) or similar creative suite (Canva acceptable). Website management experience is highly preferred.
9. Proficient with Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and/or Google Suite.
10. Proven ability to effectively develop, manage, and work collaboratively with teams of volunteers/staff.
11. Must be self-directed and able to prioritize and manage multiple projects at once.
12. Must love animals and be able to work in a noisy environment with cats and dogs, which often requires suddenly shifting gears.
13. Must have compassion for and patience with the public as well as critical-thinking and problem-solving skills in stressful situations.
14. Must be flexible to work when needed (position will include a substantial amount of evening/weekend work). Must have reliable transportation.
15. Ability to work harmoniously with other employees.

17. Ability to multitask and work in a high traffic area.
18. Self-motivated & Organized.
19. Bilingual preferred.
20. Emotional & Mental Requirements:

● Must be able to cope with the death of animals, due to injury, illness or euthanasia.
● Ability to rapidly and accurately process information.
● Ability to recognize a need for assistance and ask for help.
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
● Ability to cope with frustrating situations and remain calm and positive.

Other Requirements
1. Have or be able to obtain a valid Washington State Driver’s License
2. Must pass a Washington State Patrol Background Check

Working Conditions
Work may include irregular hours, shifts, weekends (both Saturday & Sunday). The standard schedule in place for this position is a five day week regular business hours. Fast paced environment that requires multi-tasking and being a calming entity for people and animals who may be experiencing stress.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
