    Job Summary

    This position plans, supervises and evaluates programs for students in the non-traditional setting. The Dean of Student Support and Non-Traditional Progrms will work with all professional staff assigned to Non-Traditional Programs (Restorative Center, Learning Lab, ISAEP) to provide targeted supports and interventions to support academic achievement, pro-social behaviors, and successful transitions for students.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Manage, monitor, and facilitate the work responsibilities of staff assigned to the Non-Traditional Programs.
    • Serve as a resource to teachers and staff on planning and programming needs for students.
    • Provide informational workshops to parents and students including program orientation.
    • Plan and facilitate ongoing restorative practices for students assigned to the program.
    • Mentor identified students to develop the skills necessary for them to exercise meaningful options in school and inter/intra personal relationships.
    • Identify and implement appropriate interventions.
    • Facilitate small group instruction when indicated.
    • Monitor attendance, grades, and behavior supports for students.
    • Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance.
    • Conduct classroom observations and data collection on student behavior in class and provides teacher feedback regarding strategies for students.
    • Conduct conflict mediation and dispute resolution.
    • Work with Student Success/Assistance Plans, including development, monitoring, implementation, communication of components to teachers and parent involvement in development.
    • Facilitate positive and appropriate connections with adults within the school setting and the community.
    • Serve as liaison between the parents, schools, and the Non-Traditional Programs by establishing trusting relationships with all stakeholders.
    • Schedule and facilitate re-entry meetings with comprehensive schools, students, and parents.
    • Develop transition plans for students exiting the program in collaboration with the NTP school counselor, comprehensive school staff, the student, and parent.

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)

    • Master’s degree.
    • Virginia certification in Administration and Supervision (K-12) preferred.
    • Minimum of five years teaching experience in a public school setting is preferred.
    • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with students, parents and staff.
    • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices for student engagement and achievement
    • Ability to work in challenging situations.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with parents, students and staff including effective written communication.
    • Ability to effectively utilize data to identify areas of growth and implement appropriate strategies to demonstrate improvement in student achievement.

    Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

    Highly diverse and complex duties. Must have high tolerance for change and the ability to work on several projects and assignments concurrently. Strong interpersonal skills required in working with diverse groups. Must have initiative and assume responsibility for working productively.
    Must have the ability to sit for extended periods of time in a busy office environment; exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds.
