The CPSP Health Education Specialist is responsible for effectively teaching classes to women and their family support throughout the pregnancy and postpartum period as part of the CPSP enhanced services at Eisner Health. The specialist facilitates individual and group instruction including, prenatal care, nutrition, prepared childbirth, newborn care, breastfeeding and family planning using updated theory and evidence-based research. The CPSP Health Education Specialist is a member of the Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program working with a multidisciplinary professional team.

  • Works closely with CPHWs, clinicians and clinic support staff to promote patient health education.
  • Provides in- person and virtual health education classes individually and in group settings.
  • Identifies patient education needs to provide effective behavior modification interventions.
  • Participates in the development and review of patient education materials, handouts and development of educational tools to enhance the patient education experience.
  • Provides quality parent education to women and their family members in accordance with the curriculum developed and evaluation to measure outcomes and patient satisfaction.
  • Serves as a resource to expectant parents to answer their questions about pregnancy, delivery, hospital birth and postpartum care.
  • Presents material in a clear and understandable manner with particular awareness of psychosocial issues surrounding pregnancy, birth, postpartum and parenting.
  • Promotes breastfeeding and assists mothers in reaching their own breastfeeding goals.
  • Communicates with Pediatricians and OB/GYN providers as needed for patient education coordination.
  • Demonstrates ability to work well individually and in group setting of a diverse community.
  • Assists the Director of Perinatal Education with the development and implementation of new programs.
  • Consults and collaborates with the Director of Perinatal Education and Director of Obstetric Services to develop and implement programs addressing health disparities and improving services across sites.
  • Maintains professional certificates up to date.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree/Master in Community Health or related field.
  • Lactation Educator Certificate / Childbirth education training encouraged.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish a plus
