Program Summary:

We seek a Community Advocate who will work from a philosophy that sees people, not problems and is committed to fostering a workplace culture that is social justice centered. The Community Advocate works with a team of advocates under the supervision of the Director of the Community Support Partnership. This role provides intervention services to survivors of domestic violence in Cambridge, including applicants to and tenants of Cambridge Housing Authority, and coordinates a continuum of services between Transition House, community providers, and other resources.

ON SITE WORK REQUIRED. Hybrid work schedule possible.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide support services, domestic violence counseling and advocacy through an empowerment model and survivor centered framework to survivors of domestic violence including:

● Provide support services, information and referrals. Obtain releases of information and collaborate with other providers if appropriate and requested by survivors we serve.

● Provide crisis intervention and assistance in resolving immediate safety issues related to domestic violence, including safety planning, court accompaniment, communication with hospitals, alternate housing options, law enforcement, and other collaterals requested.

● Conduct safety and domestic violence related assessments and intakes

● Recommend and provide interventions and/or referrals as appropriate, based on survivors needs. Collaborate with survivors to develop a plan to address those needs as appropriate.

● Develop and provide training about domestic violence and resources available to the community and to service providers

● Develop and facilitate interventions for community resilience around domestic violence, such as support groups and information sessions for survivors and their communities

● Work collaboratively with colleagues to improve agency standards and provide exceptional services to clients

● Perform other duties as assigned

Program/Administration:

● Maintain confidential records on each participant in a confidential database for the purpose of service/program analysis and ensuring compliance with program requirements

● Participate in clinical and programmatic supervision, agency meetings, and cross-agency meetings. Sustain a network of mental health, social service, legal services, substance abuse and domestic violence resources for the purposes of referrals

● Perform other duties as assigned.

● Demonstrated experience working with domestic violence and trauma survivors

● Demonstrated experience in trauma informed service provision

● Knowledge of and respect for client confidentiality protocols

● Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with all levels of staff, across disciplines, and among diverse community members

● Self-motivated, team player, and disciplined to regularly set and achieve work goals

● Experience with training/group facilitation

● Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally.

● Strong research, organization and presentation skills.

● High level of proficiency with the Internet, Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, understanding of database record entry and videoconferencing tools

● Ability and desire to work with an enthusiastic and highly driven team

● Committed to collaboration and upholds the highest standards of accountability and commitment to excellence

● Able to climb stairs frequently, move items up to 30 pounds.

● BA degree + 1 year in related field required or commensurate experience

Work Environment:

● Some exposure to emotional support animals.

Other Details:

Salary range is $48,000-$55,000. Comprehensive benefits package includes health, dental, retirement plan, parental leave and paid time off. Transition House provides ongoing professional and clinical supervision, and opportunities for all staff to participate in education and training regularly throughout the year.

Transition House offers additional compensation for fluency in one or more of the following languages: Spanish, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese, Amharic, & Portuguese.
