The Licensed Professional of the Healing Arts (LPHA) is under the direct supervision of the Director of Clinical Services and CMHC grant Project Director. This position is fully dedicated to being an LPHA for the Community Mental Health Centers (CMHC) Grant Program under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The LPHA is responsible for providing comprehensive clinical services utilizing Evidence Based Practices (EBPs) to persons with severe mental illness (SMI), serious emotional disturbance (SED), and co-occurring disorders (COD) served through the CMHC grant program. This position must successfully complete critical aspects of grant deliverables with a hands-on approach and through collaboration with others. Office hours are 7:30 am – 6:00 pm; however, the position must have flexible hours to accommodate individuals who cannot meet during regular business hours. The Grant is a two-year award and funding may end at that time. HCMHDD Centers will reapply for future funding opportunities to sustain the grant but in the event funding is not extended, grant staff can apply for other positions within the agency for a transfer.

  • Provision of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: When assigned this responsibility, the LPHA will provide short term, time limited, therapy services to children and adolescents who have a diagnosis of mental illness and exhibit severe emotional or social disability, as well as adults who have severe or persistent mental illness. The LPHA will work closely with the individual and the treatment team to develop a person-centered recovery plan. The LPHA will use approved therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).
  • Provision of Comprehensive Intake Assessments. When assigned this responsibility, the LPHA will be responsible for conducting comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessments and providing DSM-V diagnostic determination. The LPHA will provide a Uniform Assessment to children, adolescents and adults who present to mental health clinics operated by Hill Country MHDD Centers. The LPHA will determine eligibility for mental health services as dictated by Texas Health and Human Services and Hill Country MHDD eligibility requirements. The LPHA will work closely with the individual during the intake process to appropriately identify mental health needs of the individual.
  • Provision of Trauma Therapy: When assigned this responsibility, the LPHA will provide Trauma Focused Therapy services to individuals meeting eligibility criteria. The LPHA will work closely with the individual and the treatment team to develop a person-centered recovery plan. The LPHA will use approved therapies such as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT.
  • Plan and make projections for future services to meet outcomes, set by the state contract
  • Conduct crisis assessments. These may be done in the individuals home, local hospitals, jail and school settings in addition to the clinic
  • Assess individuals in crisis situations, developing individualized crisis treatment plans and providing crisis follow up contacts.

You will get to:

  • Promote and maintains a Trauma Informed, Person Centered environments for all individuals and staff
  • Provide clinically appropriate therapy to children, adolescents, and adults with SMI, SED and COD
  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial intake assessments in person or via tele video to determine the need for mental health services
  • Complete on-going diagnostic updates and assessments as needed
  • Ensure that all individuals have a current authorization for service, to include insurance authorization, Adult Needs and Strengths Assessment (ANSA) or Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths Assessment (CANS) (if required) and diagnosis.
  • Ensure all individuals in the CMHC grant program have an initial Person-Centered Recovery Plan (PCRP) that includes counseling as an intervention within ten days
  • Participate in the development of PCRP with assigned Recovery Coach or develop PCRP when appropriate within 60 days after initial intake.
  • Utilize collaborative and concurrent documentation for therapy and assessments at least 95% of the time.
  • Collaborate with multiple service providers and supports identified by the individual to coordinate quality care
  • Documents all services to include kept appointments, no-shows, cancellations by individuals and self
  • Assures quality service for people who are receiving services and supports by enforcing rules; regulations and legal requirements; documenting the events of a therapeutic process in a confidential manner
  • Responsible for no-show rate of no higher than 25% and staff kept appointment rates no lower than 90%.
  • Meet the agency’s current productivity standard for the position
  • Enters and updates schedule in electronic health record scheduler to reflect real-time information
  • Conducts National Outcome Measures (NOMS) interviews at intake, every 6 months during service, and at discharge
  • Participate in professional trainings (priority is CBT, CPT and TF-CBT) and staff development trainings
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, case conferences, inter-disciplinary team meetings, and individual/group supervision/clinical supervision
  • Participate in quality improvement efforts to provide feedback to the CMHC Grant Program team
  • Maintain current professional licensure in good standing without lapse
  • Maintain CANS/ANSA certification
  • Travel and driving company or personal vehicle as required for service delivery and professional development
  • Maintain confidentiality by being knowledgeable of and adhering to HIPPA regulations
  • Adhere to all Hill Country MHDD policies and procedures
  • Attend work regularly and as scheduled
  • Job description may be changed to reflect job updates and requirements
  • Performance metrics and job duties may change to reflect operational needs of the organization and/or the CMHC Grant Program

You’ll definitely need:

  • A Master’s Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy or Social Work
  • LPC, LCSW, LMFT Certifications
  • Three years of experience providing clinical and recovery support to individuals with SMI, SED and COD (preferred)
  • Two years of clinical experience in a position responsible for making diagnosis determination (preferred)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Applicant must meet Hill Country MHDD standard for CBT competency within 1 year of hire
  • Applicant must maintain competency in Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior (PMAB)
  • Applicant must maintain certification in CPR
  • A valid Texas State Driver’s License.
  • Current automobile insurance and the ability to travel when necessary.
