Cashier/Stocker

The Grain Train is looking for a friendly and reliable person to join our team at our Boyne City store. Grain Train employees enjoy incredible benefits including a generous staff discount, paid time off and holiday pay.

This part-time position is responsible for accurately checking out our customers and handling cash transactions, providing excellent customer service as well as stocking and merchandising support. The right person will be dependable, personable, and self-motivated. Must be available to work weekends and closing shifts, two days/week to start with the opportunity for more hours moving into the summer months. All new employees will spend their training period at the Petoskey store.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Cashiering:

• Greet all customers and offer a friendly farewell as customers leave.
• Process all customer transactions accurately and efficiently, scanning each item or entering the PLU number for the product.
• Bag customer purchases carefully to protect the integrity of the product, as well as appropriate weight distribution per bag. Offer carryout assistance as needed and call for support.
• Accurately handle and account for cash drawer and all supporting paperwork at the beginning, during and end of shift.
• Understand and be able to inform customers about our ownership program and how to sign up.
• Maintain checking area in clean, orderly condition.
• Issue credits to customers for retuned items and ensure that returned product is appropriately handled.
• Follow established Front End procedures and policies

Stocking:

• Restock shelves and end caps, ensuring the correct product is placed in the right location with the corresponding shelf tag.
• Restock shelves, especially fresh/perishable items using a first in, first out rotation.
• Keep top stock and back stock in an organized manner, supporting rotation with newest product below or behind oldest product.
• Work with an awareness of customer flow and traffic to support a positive customer experience. Keep your work area clean and free of clutter, debris, empty boxes, carts, or any other items that may be in the way of customers or that may create a safety hazard.
• Stock produce with care, and cull any damaged, expired, moldy, leaking products.
• Follow organic processes with regard to storage, handling and merchandising of organic and conventional products.
• Use proper safety techniques when lifting and using cutting tools.
• Assist in the receiving of incoming product.
• Follow all established Replenishment procedures and policies.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequent activities include, standing, walking, reaching, repetitive wrist motions, kneeling, bending, climbing, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs.
