Department & Position Summary


Seeking a PEDIATRIC NURSE PRACTITIONER at The University of Akron School of Nursing. This position includes clinical coordination, curriculum, and recruitment for the MSN and Certificate program. This is a 9-month position as an Associate Professor of Instruction, Nursing.

The University of Akron School of Nursing offers diverse and comprehensive nursing education programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The programs of study, based on professional standards, prepare individuals to provide nursing care in a variety of settings. The undergraduate programs provide multiple pathways to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing. At the graduate level, the School offers a Master of Science in Nursing with multiple concentrations and certificates as well as the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.

Through academic and community collaboration, the school promotes excellence in nursing education, research, practice, and service. With over 800 undergraduate and graduate students, the School partners with healthcare agencies across Northeast Ohio and beyond to support clinical placement of students in its various programs. Our partners and collaborators include the Cleveland Clinic, the Cleveland Clinic Akron General System, University Hospitals, Summa Health System, Akron Children's Hospital, Northeast Ohio Medical University, and numerous community partners. Responsibilities


Participate in the recruitment, selection, and evaluation of candidates during the admission process, as well as assist in establishing and maintaining admission and selection criteria. Assist in the design, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum that enables students to obtain proper certification and ensures courses adhere to guidelines and standards of accreditation bodies. Provide instruction in the classroom/simulation and skills lab, coordinate clinical placements, and provide student advising. Act as liaison with all program faculty regarding course content, the online learning platform, student rosters, and schedules. Participate in the Accreditation process. Maintain continuing education based on requirements of certifying bodies. Maintain national certification as a pediatric nurse practitioner (acute care and/or primary care as required for this position). Network internally and externally with other institutions, schools, faculties, and professional organizations for personal and program enrichment. Work with the Clinical site/Placement coordinator to ensure and evaluate hospital, clinical site and preceptor information is entered and maintained in shared database (Typhon). Serve as an advisor for DNP Projects. Maintain a program of personal, professional growth through activities such as engaging in scholarly activity, school, university and community service and other pursuits commensurate with faculty rank and status.


Required Qualifications


Must possess current unrestricted RN and APRN licenses in the State of Ohio. Must possess current national certification as a pediatric nurse practitioner (acute care and/or primary care). Minimum of five years of current pediatric clinical experience as an acute and/or primary APRN. Must possess Clinical Practice Doctorate degree (DNP) or Research Doctorate from a nationally accredited institution. Current Healthcare BLS certification. Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community.


Preferred Qualifications


Pediatric APRN experience with varied populations and delivery systems. Ability to use computer software (Brightspace, Microsoft Word, Excel, Typhon Group & PowerPoint, and other related educational platforms). Active involvement in national professional organizations. Skill in goal setting and team building. Current PALS certification. Analytical and organizational skills to plan, implement and evaluate program activities. Familiarity with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Essentials, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accreditation, and National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties Competencies, as they pertain to educational program's policies, procedures, and curriculum evaluation.

The compensation for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
