Wastewater Treatment Team Leader

1st Shift


Hours: 6:00am – 2:30pm (Overtime as production demands)


POSITION OVERVIEW

The Wastewater Treatment Team Leader is responsible for the operations, maintenance, and leadership of two on-site wastewater treatment facilities. This position will have the opportunity to lead, coach, and develop Wastewater operators and is responsible for ensuring the facilities have the capacity and ability to support an expanding business and operate within permit requirements.

  • Organize, plan, direct and perform 24-7 operations for two wastewater treatment plants in compliance with our discharge permit.
  • Train and coach Members on the WWTP process and be responsible for the performance, productivity, and efficient utilization of resources.
  • Manage the Inspection and Maintenance (including Preventative Maintenance activities), of all mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Schedule and Manage the collection and arrangement of samples in preparation for laboratory analysis as required by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources or as directed.
  • Tabulate data and maintain records on systems operations and compliance.
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary for complete and effective wastewater treatment and system operation.
  • Coach team members in WWTP to deliver continuous improvement in the areas of safety, compliance, cost, customer service, Member development and BPTW.
  • Participate/facilitate communication with Operations and Engineering leadership in all facilities on campus.
  • Participate in water conservation efforts at the Sheboygan campus.
  • Assist in WI DNR required drinking water sampling and reporting.
  • Participate with the company and facility environmental teams.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect and arrange samples for laboratory analysis
  • Create complex spreadsheets to tabulate data and maintain records on systems operations and compliance
  • Determine new chemicals effects on WWTP prior to use in production facilities
  • Coach WWTP team members
  • Operate SAP software for budgeting
  • Operate a forklift


Qualifications:

  • An associate degree or B.S. Degree in a related field, required. Candidates without a bachelor’s degree must continue their education to earn a bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years-experience in the operation of an activated sludge wastewater treatment facility including wastewater operations, collection systems and lift stations.
  • A minimum of 5 years of proven leadership ability and knowledge strongly preferred
  • Proven understanding of chemistry & its effects in both water and wastewater
  • Advanced Wastewater Operator Certification is strongly preferred.
  • Must obtain sub-classes for Biological Solids/sludge handling/processing & reuse, Biological Treatment – Suspended growth, Disinfection, Solids Separation, Nutrient Removal – Total Phosphorus, Laboratory, and Unique Treatment Systems - Other within 24 months of hire (Basic).
  • Must obtain “Small Water System Operator” certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Experience with electrical and mechanical systems and operator level Preventative Maintenance.
  • Solid understanding of the activated sludge process and phosphorus removal process/systems
  • Understanding and ability to collect samples and knowledge of routine laboratory and testing procedures.
  • Solid understanding of engineering concepts as they pertain to wastewater treatment.
  • Solid understanding of engineering terminology
  • Proven understanding of engineering drawings and schematics, and ability to train others to understand and accurately use drawings & schematics.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, problem resolution, project management, multi-tasking and organizational abilities within a team environment.
  • Knowledge in regulatory compliance (safety, DNR, EPA).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with, at a minimum, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
  • Demonstrated desire to learn, grow and take on increasing responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing positive feedback and coaching Members on performance improvement.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds
  • At a minimum an associate degree in Water and Wastewater treatment is required
