    If hired, the State Board for Educator Certification will require all first time applicants for an initial credential to be fingerprinted as part of a national criminal background check. A cost of up to $49.00 will be charged for fingerprinting.

    PRIMARY PURPOSE:
    To provide support for the Elementary Spanish Volunteer Program.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
    • Assist in the recruitment process for the volunteer Campus Elementary Spanish Volunteer Coordinators and Assistant Coordinators at each elementary campus.
    • Provide initial training to new Campus Elementary Spanish Volunteer Coordinators.
    • Provide orientation training to Campus Elementary Spanish Volunteer Coordinators throughout the district at the beginning of the school year; may have an orientation later in the year for volunteers that sign up late.
    • Work with the World Languages Coordinator to update and maintain the Spanish Volunteer Program website.
    • Coordinate the recruitment and placement of Spanish Volunteers to go to Elementary campuses 30 minutes per week to teach children Spanish lessons.
    • Prepare materials such as flyers to be included in first day packets.
    • Assist in disbursement of materials.
    • Assist the World Languages Coordinator to inventory and order Spanish Programs for campuses as needed.
    • Attend campus and district events to recruit interested Spanish Volunteers.
    • Regularly communicate with World Languages Coordinator; meet in person approximately four times per year.
    • Organize end of school year inventory and program completion for the school year.
    • May research extra materials to purchase if additional budget.
    • Gather feedback and make recommendations for continuous improvement of program effectiveness.
    • Demonstrates regular and prompt attendance.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
    Education/Certification/Experience:
    • Valid teaching certificate preferred. Bilingual certification in Spanish preferred.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
    • Knowledge of Spanish volunteer program goals.
    • Skill in organizational and interpersonal relations.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with volunteers and campus staff.
    Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands
    • Frequently communicates with LISD employees and public. Must be able to exchange accurate information.
    • Ability to understand, remember, and communicate routine, factual information.
    • Ability to organize and prioritize own work schedule on short-term basis.
    • Ability to make decisions which have moderate impact on immediate work unit.
    • Ability to compose letters, outlines, memoranda, and basic reports and/or to orally communicate technical information.
    • Ability to communicate with individuals utilizing a telephone, computer or other electronic device.
    • Use standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.
