Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) is a progressive member owned utility with a service area that spreads from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay. REC serves over 165,000 connections in portions of 22 Virginia counties. REC is seeking an Utility Person in our Front Royal office.
The Utility Person II will provide efficient cleaning and maintenance services for the Culpeper District office, building, storage areas and the facility grounds.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs daily the cleaning of the warehouse, trucks, wash rack and truck bays.
Performs delivery of materials and apparatus between districts and crews with REC transportation equipment assuring proper securing (tie down) to prevent damage with strict observance of Virginia speed limits and REC safety rules.
Maintains lawn areas by fertilizing, mowing, trimming; and mulching, spraying, trimming trees and shrubbery.
Maintains and keeps in good order lighting system in main office building and those external lighting as well as ballast changes.
Performs periodic and required maintenance on building equipment, to include changing filters in air handling units, cleaning filters in room air conditioning units, checking fire extinguishers, first aid kits and lubricating roller gate.
Assists with materials handling (loading, unloading, and placement in storage areas) in the district as directed.
Removes snow and ice from walkways, steps and entrances during winter months.
Sets time clocks/ timers properly as seasons change.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High school graduate or GED (General Equivalency Diploma) required. This role is an entry level position. The ideal candidate should be proficient with six (6) to twelve (12) months of experience cleaning trucks, materials, waxes, finishes, cleaning equipment, minor repairs on lights, plumbing and grounds care.
Must have a thorough knowledge of various cleaning supplies, waxes, finishes and their application. Must have a working knowledge of how to perform minor repairs on office type lighting and plumbing. Must have a thorough knowledge of grounds care procedures.
Must have the ability to: clean and maintain a general office building. Operate lawn mowers and other lawn care equipment. Must be able to operate a five‐ton truck with a trailer for general hauling. Must have a current Virginia Commercial Driver's license (or obtain within three months of hire date). Must be able to assist in minor maintenance of various apparatus. Operate forklifts.
Usually working within the general office building, warehouse and on the grounds. Driving for general hauling is required for designated round trips of 80 to 200 miles per trip. Must be able to work in all weather conditions and be able to lift and move heavy objects.
