The Aerospace Corporation Space Systems Group (SSG) serves as the technical and programmatic advisor to the United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) for acquiring, developing and fielding capabilities for the United States Space Command and joint warfighter, as well as to maintain America’s comprehensive military advantage in space.

As a Project Engineer/Senior Project Engineer in the United States Nuclear Detonation Detection System (USNDS) program office, you will provide technical leadership to both enterprise system engineering and ground segment development activities for the next generation USNDS system.
Telecommuting a few days a week is possible subject to customer needs.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Provide technical leadership to USNDS systems engineering activities such as the development of USNDS engineering governance artifacts, ground segment specification development, enterprise test scenario development, etc.
  • Participate in USNDS systems engineering boards, e.g., risk, configuration control, etc.
  • Manage Aerospace technical support to custom ground system hardware development efforts including receiver/antenna and cryptographic units
  • Provide, in collaboration with the Government, oversight and insight for contractor system development strategies and detailed planning for USNDS ground system hardware components
  • Participate in program status assessments and independent risk assessments that advise Government and Aerospace management of perceived technical problems and recommend courses of action
  • Represent Aerospace in program meetings and technical forums such as design reviews, technical interchanges, and program management reviews
  • Prepare briefings and reports to provide status and recommendations to the Government and Aerospace management on the technical assessments and analyses performed by Aerospace to support systems engineering processes
  • Interact regularly with Government teams, development contractors, and other collaborators across the USNDS enterprise
What You Need to be Successful - Project Engineer
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, physical science, mathematics, or related technical degree from an accredited institution
  • Typically 8 years of related professional engineering/scientific experience with at least 5 years of experience with national security space systems
  • Experience and understanding of satellite ground systems
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a program office environment with a mix of Government, FFRDC and SETA personnel
  • This position requires a current Secret security clearance, which is issued by the US Government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance
  • Ability to travel approximately 20% of the time between California, Colorado, and New Mexico

Minimum Requirements:
  • All the above requirements plus the following:
  • Typically 12 years of related professional engineering/scientific experience with at least a total of 8 years of experience with national security space systems
  • Significant experience and understanding of satellite ground systems

Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
