We are a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Individuals with Developmental Disabilities, by providing Vocational and Community Living Services. We have been serving Individuals with Developmental Disabilities in San Luis Obispo County since 1957, when we first introduced our Vocational Training Program. In 2003, we partnered with NCI Affiliates, and while both agencies have their own identities, both have a single focus - promoting independence and inclusion for adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities through vocational training, education and adaptive living skills programs, advocacy, and community living services.

At Achievement House, our Vocational Case Manager oversees the support and training of Direct Support Professionals. This entails reviewing case management provided for every Individual Served; ensuring the efficient, safe, and effective operation of supported employment sites; coaching on how to meet, and exceed, customers’ expectations; and working with direct support staff to maximize donation profitability and use of sites as effective retail training ventures. This position has supervisory duties.

Essential Duties Include:

  • Coordinate and schedule annual reviews with individuals served and identify short-term + long-term goals along with any barriers to those goals; review new referrals and conduct intakes for new referrals.

  • Maintain a courteous, positive, enthusiastic, well-mannered, and professional demeanor while working with Individuals Served and the community as well as with Achievement House stakeholders

  • Provide Individuals with continuous instructions for work specific to vocational growth and training objectives that guarantee and correspond with abilities and development.

  • Oversee Individual’s assessment to determine their goals, preferences and needs and provide suggestions to assure meeting of these needs.

  • Ensure contact customer satisfaction, by assessing the effectiveness of the placement of Individual’s served.

  • Collaborate with management in addressing worksite challenges, as well as, assessing potential crew opportunities.
  • Work with Individual’s served in a proactive manner to encourage behavior changes as needed and encourage growth.
  • Address behavior situations on emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Ensure that staff has accurate information regarding Individual’s served and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that staff is trained on how to complete data charts and all required goal tracking paperwork. Supply quarterly updates.

Qualifying Specifications:

  • Must have own vehicle.

  • Must maintain a current California driver’s license.

  • Must provide on-going proof of current state required auto insurance.

  • Must have an acceptable driving record as determined by criteria established by the agency’s insurance carrier.

  • Must clear fingerprints through the California Department of Justice and the FBI.

  • Must successfully complete First Aid / CPR training (Training is offered onsite)

Physical Requirements:

  • Essential functions of this position require that employees regularly sit, stand, bend, twist and walk.
  • Employees may occasionally be required to lift or move up to 30 lbs.

Education / Experience:

  • A high school education or equivalent is required.
  • Previous experience working with Individuals with Developmental Disabilities is preferred.

Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • The ability to have compassion, patience, good communication, resourcefulness, and the ability to make sound decisions.

  • The ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Reading, writing, basic math skills.

  • The ability to motivate others.

  • Flexible with work schedules and willing to help cover different sites as needed.

  • Bilingual preferred, but not necessary.
