Job Description Summary

In this role, you will perform complex technical and interpretation work for Flush and Resistance Weld Ultrasonic (UT) Microscopes to support operations in Global Nuclear Fuel – Americas, LLC (GNF-A) Fuel Manufacturing Operation (FMO), a commercial nuclear fuel manufacturing assembly operation. Responsibilities include set-up, maintenance, diagnosis, calibration, adjustment, and interpretation of data from Flush and Resistance Weld Ultrasonic (UT) Microscopes.

Job Description

This position will work 2nd shift. The working hours for these positions are anticipated to be 2PM- 10PM.

The pay rate for this position is $35.91/hour, progressing to $36.47/hour after 6 months of satisfactory performance, plus a $1/hour night shift premium.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Embrace GNF-A’s nuclear safety culture, where work is performed with an overriding priority on integrity, safety and quality.
  • Performs duties conforming to all governing safety regulations and procedures, including OSHA, American Society for Non Destructive Testing (ASNT), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), etc.
  • Evaluate shear wave amplitude and depth, longitudinal wave thickness, longitudinal echo amplitude imaging data from flush weld ultrasonic microscopes to determine acceptability of suspect welds.
  • Evaluate longitudinal and shear wave-imaging data from flush weld ultrasonic microscopes to verify proper setup and sensitivity of inspection equipment.
  • Perform design (size) changeovers on flush and resistance weld UT microscopes to include adjustment of transducers, electronic setting of gates, verification of sensitivity and measurement accuracy.
  • Perform evaluation of imaging data and report data from ultrasonic microscopes to trouble-shoot and correct hardware, software and setup related problems.
  • Select, prepare and maintain suitable welds as dimensional and shear wave UT standards for first and final weld ultrasonic microscopes.
  • Work with Quality and Technical Resources to develop detailed ultrasonic set-up techniques and procedures for new products and processes.
  • Assist and work with maintenance personnel to repair and maintain ultrasonic microscopes.
  • Work with Production, Technical Resources and Quality Assurance to assure team product quality and schedule objectives are met.
  • Keep facilities, equipment and work areas clean and orderly. Adhere to good housekeeping practices.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • ASNT-TC-1A Level II certification in ultrasonics with a minimum of 5 years of working experience with interactive computer imaging systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with ultrasonic and electronic equipment such as digital oscilloscopes and digital analyzers.

Requirements:

  • Work requires intense mental concentration.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex prints, schematics, manuals and instructions.
  • Ability to move around equipment, including stooping, kneeling, crouching and working in awkward positions while performing maintenance tasks. **
  • Ability and willingness to work in Radiological Controlled Access Areas, and wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Must pass nuclear safety, industrial, and environmental training test, respiratory protection requirements, and QC measurement test.
  • Corrected 20/20 vision and color distinction required in order to complete the Quality Control (QC) vision test.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lb. **
  • Willing to wear personal protective equipment, for example: safety glasses, gloves, hats, safety shoes, protective clothing, and a half and/or full-face respirator mask. **
  • Must be able to frequently lift heavy trays up to 50 lbs. from ground to head level. Must be able to push/pull up material handling carts with a required force up to 50 lbs. **
  • Ability to operate a computer.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime as necessary to meet business requirements.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Technical school associate degree or training in NDE disciplines, electronics, instrumentation desired.
  • Sufficient depth of UT knowledge to recognize conditions adverse to quality, which are not specifically or normally covered by established planning.
  • Experience in the nuclear power generation business.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills. Able to describe detailed ultrasonic microscope theory, operation and evaluation of imaging data.
