Position Purpose

The Donor Services Coordinator (DSC) functions as a valued member of the Donor Services Team by receiving and providing efficient, timely, and accurate donor referrals for its stakeholders (i.e. partner Organ Procurement Organizations-OPOs, partner tissue banks, partner eye banks, referring hospitals, medical examiner offices, funeral homes, recovery team members). This starts from the initial medical screening to determine preliminary donor eligibility all the way up to completion of the authorization and the Donor Risk Assessment interview. Each DSC provides education, support, and guidance to family members of past, present, or future tissue and/or eye donors.

Donor Services Coordinators deliver quality customer service at all times which requires remaining organized in a fast-paced environment through high levels of attention to detail while multi-tasking. This position directly contributes to the success of our agency’s mission by providing preliminary donor eligibility determination and completing all required paperwork with the donor family. This position should embody the values and attributes of LEITR to help deliver outstanding customer service throughout the service territory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports the Mission, Vision, and Values of LEITR while exhibiting a personal commitment to tissue and eye donation.
  • Accurately identifies and processes all potential tissue and/or eye donor referrals through medical screening to maximize donation opportunities.
  • Accurately and effectively evaluates information for determination of preliminary donor eligibility by way of obtaining then reviewing relevant clinical information, hemodilution assessment, medical history, and behavioral risk assessment.
  • Communicates with appropriate partners and personnel according to established protocols with exemplary customer service.
  • Works empathetically, compassionately, and professionally with grieving families to advocate for tissue and/or eye donation through transplantation or research.
  • Follows all communication protocols to ensure respectful and effective interactions with Donor Services stakeholders including, but not limited to, hospital staff, funeral homes, medical examiners, partners, and potential donor families.
  • Coordinates recovery logistics of potential tissue and/or eye donors by effectively communicating information to recovery staff according to established protocols.
  • Adheres to quality driven best practices during all aspects of referral completion from donor screening to the authorization/disclosure process and while completing the Donor Risk Assessment Interview.
  • Attends required meetings and trainings deemed necessary by immediate manager or leadership.
  • Maintains punctuality in attendance of all scheduled shifts or meetings while providing appropriate availability for regular and on-call scheduling including holidays and weekends, according to established protocols and policy.
  • Consistently meets targeted benchmarks driven by key performance indicators for the continued growth of the department and company.
  • May perform other duties as requested by management.

Work Environment

The work environment described here is representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to a laboratory-like environment and office like-environment. The noise level is usually low. Open discussions about donor health and circumstances of death occur throughout the day. Equipment required for this position include but are not limited to, standard office space and equipment, standard PC equipment, printers, and telephone and/or headset.

Physical Demands

The physical demands representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job include but are not limited to regularly required to sit, stand, talk, see and hear; needing to possess conversational hearing, with and without aid, as well as adequate vision; required to possess dexterity to operate standard office equipment; occasionally required to lift 25 pounds or more. Schedule and Pay

  • Position works 12-hour shifts using the Panama schedule
  • Shift is overnight from 7p-7a
  • Shift differential paid
  • $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
