Title: Tourism Executive Director

Reports To: Fulton Tourism Commission

Department: Tourism Commission

Classification: Exempt (At Will Employment)

Employment Status: Fulltime

Primary Responsibilities:The Tourism Director is contract position with the City of Fulton Tourism Commission and is responsible and reports to the Tourism Commission. The director plans, directs, organizes, and coordinates the promotion of the City of Fulton, Kentucky as a tourist destination; preforms the responsibility as assigned by the Tourism Commission; and makes decisions based on current policy and procedures; formulates and recommends new and updates to the policy and procedures. The Director is responsible for the internal organization, administration of the office. The Director also works with the Commonwealth of Kentucky, City of Fulton government and any other agencies to promote the City of Fulton Tourism.

Essential Job Functions: Keep the Tourism Commission fully informed on the conditions of the operations of Tourism actives and all other issues that are important factors to promoting events in the City of Fulton.

Attends meetings of the City of Fulton Commission (as needed), attends Tourism Commission meetings attends Chamber of Commerce meetings (as needed) attends committee meeting for the promotion of tourism, and any other meetings assigned by the Tourism Commission.

Executes all decisions and directions of the tourism Commission.

Oversees all media, website, social media, and press releases of the Tourism Commission.

Conducts market research and development of marketing strategies to promote Tourism in the City of Fulton.

Executes contracts, bids and commitments as authorized by the Tourism Commission.

Maintains membership and visible leadership in tourism related industries.

Recommends an annual budget to the Tourism Commission. Upon approval of budget operates within that budget.

Directs and coordinates all programs, products, and major actives of the Tourism Commission.

Executes the bylaws, policies and procedures of the Tourism Commission and ensures that KRS & KAR regarding tourism is followed.

Works with private investors and developers strengthen Tourism in the City of Fulton.

Meets with local restaurant and hotel motel owners on a regular basis to ensure that their local business are being promoted in an effective manner.

Assesses the needs and appropriate implementation for more effective operations.

Maintains a cohesive working relationship with the City of Fulton, citizens of the community, Chamber of Commerce, local civic organizations, and State Government to ensure unified and effective promotional effort of the community exist.

Knowledge & Skills: Creativity, innovative, self-motived and organizational skills.

Computer literacy in all Microsoft applications.

Knowledge of budgeting and financial management

Practical experience in organizing and managing events including marketing, recruitment, retention and planning of tourism events.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability makes effective public presentations at public speaking events, during media events and while representing the Fulton Tourism Commission.

Strong technical and creative skills for grant writing and the management of grants.

Knowledge of effective marketing, public relations, and social media.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (required knowledge, include the level or depth of knowledge required for entry into the position)

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: (Preferred education and experience that an employee must possess to satisfactorily perform the job duties and responsibilities.)

Shall have earned at least a High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED), with at least 3 years of responsible related experience, or any equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Experience with developing, sustaining, and marketing of tourism resources is desired.

Experience working in a public service position is desired.

This position involves a combination of work in an office setting along with work in the field during events.

Subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, and waiting.

May be subject to early starts and/or late finish to accommodate scheduling.

Workdays can be long, 10 or more hours in a day may be required based tourism needs.

Will be expected to function in all sorts of weather conditions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a current, valid driver’s license with current residence listed.
