Job Summary

Carry out improvements on Class A, B and C dies with little or no supervision as per customer and production requirements. Autonomously perform planned and unplanned maintenance to the stamping dies, plus analysis, diagnosis and correction of faults (mechanical, electrical, formability) processes to improve performance and availability of production lines. Ensure compliance with the maintenance program to improve the uptime of the tool in production lines.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Autonomously diagnose and correct Class A defects, specifically draw ability, surface and dimensions.
  • Responsible for documenting all changes made to tools and production parameters.
  • Properly troubleshoot production defects and eliminate all possible causes for production downtime.
  • Execution of engineering changes and improvements in the tools for customer complaints.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work practice by observing safely procedures and practices.
  • Follow the work order system, including capture and print work orders in the Work Order (SAP) system, perform the following instructions order filling and posting progress specifying the order in the die daily.
  • Use and safe handling of cranes, machines, and basic tools to transport dies to Line Workshop daily.

Education and Experience
  • USDOL Tool & Die Journeyman’s Card or proof of (5) years related experience.
  • Minimum (5) year of experience trouble shooting in a Class-A automotive Stamping Plant.
  • Experience with implementation of Engineering Changes a plus.
  • Experience in a Die Build Facility a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must be a Team oriented player & work well with others.
  • Must have own basic set of precision/hand tools.
  • Must be able to read detail prints & order perishable details such as pierce punches & buttons, gas springs, guide pins and bushings, etc.
  • Must be willing to work any shift as Plant schedule and/or manpower requirements deem necessary.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as required (including Sundays) to maintain all Plant functions relative to the Tool Room such as but not limited to Program Launch, die repairs, engineering change timing to customer dates/requirements, etc.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle, manipulate, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk and hear
  • Employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • The ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so other will understand
  • The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted
