An exciting, new opportunity has arisen for a Technical Assistant to join a team of Technicians supporting clinical skills and simulated practice learning and teaching within the School of Health and Social Care.

We are ‘home of difference makers’ and we need your support in fulfilling that promise. You will play a critical role in supporting pre-registration nursing and midwifery programmes, including assisting in the daily running of practical classes and project work for both our staff and our students.

Our large facility is versatile and covers everything from online learning, classroom tutorials, a critical care unit and clinical ward to a home environment. Our simulation and clinical skills centre and is also utilised to facilitate learning and simulation to a number of external organisations and private companies. The Role

You will have the opportunity to assist in the running of practical classes and project work including preparing, setting up and clearing away materials.

As someone who has knowledge of Health and Safety procedures, and the safe handling of hazardous solutions/chemicals, you’ll support in ensuring the safety of both our staff and students.

You will have the chance to make a difference, through contributing to the development of new techniques and assisting in the maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting of different equipment, and the Simulation and Clinical Skills Centre.

You will get to use your IT skills to access electronic records, and work with specialist equipment including SMOTS cameras, medium and high-fidelity mannequins.

You will have the opportunity to build relationships with colleagues, students, and externals, including a variety of Health Boards. This includes supporting in administration tasks including timetable allocation, student registers and attendance, student enquiries (certificates, ePAD, timetable queries, CPD course enquires/bookings, Moodle content and the Simulated Patient Programme.

What we’ll need from you

You’ll be a highly motivated, organised individual with:

  • Good passes at Higher Grades or equivalent demonstrable experience in a similar role.
  • Experience of working in a clinical skills centre or healthcare environment.
  • Experience of working in a busy environment combined with the ability to work effectively on own initiative and within a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written to relate to colleagues, students and those external to the University.
  • Well-developed IT skills in relation to standard Microsoft Office software.
