Job description

Boston Children’s Chorus is looking to immediately hire aTeaching Artist (dance) for their program, BCC SUMMER 2023! With one week running from July 24 to July 28, this choral program invites children ages 7 - 12 to engage in singing, drama, dance, and visual arts - which is where you come in!

We are seeking to hire collaborative Teaching Artists that implement creative work with our young singers that is in line with our week’s theme, “Everybody Says Don’t,” which examines silly and serious, right and wrong, times that children are told “no.”

Each week of programming requires a Teaching Artists (dance) to be on site from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday - Friday, and attend the Friday evening performance from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. This Teaching Artist will be responsible for about 2 hours of teaching per day, the bulk of which will occur during “breakout sessions” which host from 8 to 12 children. Each breakout session group will perform their own 90-second piece in the Friday evening showcase. The Teaching Artist will also be responsible for adding light choreography to choral pieces throughout the week. Artistic work will be inherently collaborative with the Choral Clinician.

The program will be held at our South Boston main office and rehearsal space (see address below). It is accessible via T (Broadway stop on the Red Line) and we do have free parking available.

About this Organization:
Boston Children’s Chorus harnesses the power of music to connect our city’s diverse communities, cultivate empathy, and inspire social inquiry. Our work rigorously explores the question of whose stories are heard, seen, and celebrated. Through collaborative artistry and dialogue, we actively encourage singers to inquire critically about issues impacting them, their families, and our communities. Over time, this regular practice of critical inquiry cultivates an empathetic, inclusive perspective, allowing our singers to understand what they believe, what they value, and how those affect others. Equipped by a diverse narrative, critical perspective, and empathy, our singers exercise their power to affect change. They become leaders in their homes, schools, workplaces, and communities, advocating for themselves and for others. As our singers move in the world, they strive to dismantle injustice.
