Qualifications


Applications are now being accepted for Teaching Assistant 2 - Fed 3 & 4 Setting positions for the Special Education Extended School Year (Summer Session). The center-based programs will run for six weeks

Other assignments may be short-term or split among sites based on ESY service delivery needs for students. Assignments are contingent upon adequate student enrollment and, in some cases, approval of funding.

All employees must be available to work each school day during the summer program and the following two weeks, Monday - Friday.

Qualifications

One of the following:

  • An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, or
  • Two years of post-secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution of higher education which are applicable toward a bachelors degree, or
  • Passing score of 460 (or higher) on the ParaPro Assessment AND either a high school diploma or a GED certificate. (For more information on the ParaPro Assessment, contact Educational Testing Service at 1-800-772-9476 or www.ets.org/parapro)


Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Basic skills in reading, writing and mathematics.
  • Basic skills in typing and duplicating may be required for some positions.
  • Ability to develop good relationships with students and staff.
  • Ability to be sensitive to the needs of others.
  • Ability to relate to students with warmth, friendliness and understanding.
  • Lifting may be required for some Teaching Assistant positions.
  • Must be on time to the job every day.


Pay

  • Compensation is the paraprofessional’s current SPPS hourly rate as specified in the labor agreement with the Saint Paul Public Schools.
  • Non SPPS employees will be hired at the entry level Teaching Assistant (TA) hourly rate as specified in the labor agreement with the Saint Paul Public Schools.
  • This position is not benefits eligible.


Essential Functions

Essential functions are functions that the individual holding the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation through the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) and the Americans with Disability Amendments Act (ADAAA). The essential functions are typical duties as outline under Responsibilities.

Regular and reliable attendance.

Maybe exposed to various cleaning products.

Criminal Background Investigation and Reference Checks - Reference checks and a criminal background investigation will be completed as a condition of hire for all new employees and for former employees who have not been employed by the District for more than six months.
