Summary of Position:

The System Administrator – II role is responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Gypsum Management and Supply’s servers and related infrastructure. The administrator will be managing servers, storage, virtualization, device monitoring, and some database administration. This role will focus on server patching and hardening to security standards. This role also designs and implements IT Infrastructure per the corporate IT strategy and guidelines. This role works closely with security and other departments to ensure the day-to-day operations and security of the server environment.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Linux and Windows server administration
  • Linux server patching
  • Windows server patching
  • Linux server security hardening
  • Windows server security hardening
  • VMWare 6.5+ administration and monitoring
  • Active Directory Administration
  • Zerto 7+ administration and monitoring
  • SAN and NAS Storage administration and monitoring
  • Audit internally for security compliance of servers and server infrastructure
  • Develop and maintain procedures for hardware and operating system procurement, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and upgrades
  • Create, maintain, and utilize build guides to support standards for all internal and hosted servers
  • Document system installation settings, daily operations, and details of infrastructure systems
  • Ensure vendor and/or customer-specified design plans are implemented to specification, including disaster recovery plans, backup procedures, and system integrations
  • Coordinate all new implementations and designs with the internal architecture, disaster recovery, datacenter, and network teams
  • Work with internal application development and network teams to troubleshoot network connectivity problems as it relates to internal systems
  • Compliance checking to ensure that all standards are adhered to for monitoring, system management tools, server security, backup/recovery schedules
  • React promptly to remediate compliance problems and server-related incidents
  • Installation and removal of server hardware at the data center
  • Available 24x7x365 for emergencies with production systems

  • Ability to coordinate across teams, working closely with peers to ensure the appropriate focus and sense of urgency is applied to all.

  • Assists in other areas of the department and company when needed
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • The position may require work outside of normal business hours (including some weekends and holidays) in response to critical, business-impacting situations.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work well under pressure

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience supporting Intel-based server-class hardware in a data center environment, including:
    • Installing and maintaining server hardware
    • Installing and administering Microsoft Server OS
    • Installing and administering Windows Terminal Services
    • Installing and administering server monitoring
    • Working knowledge of SAN/NAS storage
    • Working knowledge of iSCSI protocol and methodologies
    • Working knowledge of Active Directory
    • Working knowledge of VMware virtual servers
    • Working knowledge of server backup and restore processes
    • Working within an ITIL framework or other environment using change control processes
    • Working knowledge of Redhat Enterprise Linux OS
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

Optional skill sets given additional consideration:

  • A+, Microsoft and Dell certifications
  • Bash, PowerShell, or VB scripting experience
  • Solarwinds/Nagios monitoring software experience
  • BMC, Puppet, Chef, etc. type automation experience

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to remain in stationary position 70%
  • Frequently, will move about inside the office to access files, office machinery, etc.
  • Must be able to operate basic office machinery
  • Must be able to lift up to chest height 80 lbs. occasionally when installing and deinstalling server equipment from datacenters while following basic OSHA datacenter guidelines
  • Must be able to communicate with team and management and be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Constantly working in office environment
  • Must be able to travel with extended stays
  • Must be comfortable working in the elements and at various heights
