Small, private hospital near The University of Dayton, has a need for an experienced and dedicated Scrub Tech/Surgical Tech.

Job Title: Surgical Technician

Department: Clinical

Reports to: Nurse Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary

Establish and maintain the sterile surgical field. Prepare and oversee all sterile equipment/instrumentation used during the operative procedure. May also act as first surgical assistant to the surgeon.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Gather instrumentation/equipment/supplies for the particular operative procedure

Establish and maintain the sterile field following appropriate technique.

Communicates to the OR team breaks of the sterile field and intervenes to reestablish.

Checks for the proper functioning of all sterile/non-sterile equipment before the operating procedure begins.

Assists the surgeon by handing instrumentation, sterile supplies and/or otherwise directed by the surgeon.

Clean, sort and arrange surgical instruments and equipment.

Assist in restocking supplies, rotate inventory of supplies and pull supplies for cases the next day.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school graduate or GED.

Completion of an accredited surgical tech program.

Must have 12 months’ previous surgical technician experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Surgical technician certification preferred.

Must have current BLS certification

Employee will work typical hours for an OR environment. This means availability to work long hours, evenings, and weekends and overtime may be required.
