Job description
Job Summary
Schedules patients for surgery, tests, referrals, medical and cardiac clearance, pre-operative testing and health history as needed.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED General Studies required. One or more years of Surgery Scheduling experience in health care setting preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in computer and basic office utilization of equipment
- Proficient telephone communication skills
- Customer service skills
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology and Coding
Essential Functions
- Maintains the confidentiality of all patient related information.
- Pleasantly greets all patients who check in at the front desk.
- Schedules outpatient appointments and tests; admissions and referrals; imaging appointments for office or outside facilities.
- Coordinates and reschedules surgical appointment if necessary.
- Maintains and updates current information on physicians' schedules ensuring that surgeries are scheduled properly and confirmed.
- Calls insurance companies and pre-certifies referral requests.
- Maintains a clean well-stocked and organized work area and notifies appropriate personnel when stock needs replenishing
- Answers telephone, screens calls, takes messages, and provides information
- Answers questions regarding patient surgical appointments and testing.
- Completes FMLA/disability forms for patients if applicable
- Upholds a professional working relationship at all times and adheres to department rules.
- Practices teamwork
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
