Substitute Child Care Attendant
Job Description

Job Summary: Supervise and monitor children before school, recess, lunchtime and after school for purposes of safety and play in appropriate activities.

Reports to: Director of Childcare and After School Programs

Position: Part-time (6 hours per day maximum)

• Shift 1 - 7:15am-8:30am; 11:15am-1:15pm; 2:15pm-4:30pm OR

• Shift 2 11:15am-1:15pm; 2:15pm-5:30pm

Essential Duties:

• Supervise children before school, recess, lunchtime, and after school.

• Be a role model for sharing, sportsmanship and general behavior.

• Teach children how to resolve conflict, use words, express their emotions and share.

• Nurture young children in kindergarten through sixth grade.

• Engage children in play activities.

• Sign children in and out as needed.

• Escort children to and from after-school programs as needed.

• Supervise meals and snacks.

• Support school values.

• Assist with carpool duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skill and Experience:

• Minimum education (or substitute experience) required: High School Diploma

• College graduate or current student in education field preferred

• Minimum experience required: 1-2 years working with children (ages 5-13)

Typical Working Conditions:*
Work outdoors (except for rainy days), constantly moving about among groups of children, supervising play and initiating same as needed.
