Structural/Mechanical Technical Designer II - Appleton, WI in GAC Appleton


Unique Skills:

This is a Technical Designer position in Structural/Mechanical Engineering group for Completions Engineering. Responsibilities primarily involve modeling and drafting of new and derivative versions of aircraft interior furnishings/payloads and wire harnesses as part of outfitting new aircraft using Catia V5 and AutoCad. Examples include custom cabinetry such as galleys, lavatories, closets, storage compartments, interior peripheries, water/waste systems, entertainment equipment installations, and seating installations. The technical designer will also be responsible for creating models and drawings installing the aforementioned commodities into the aircraft. Designers will create data consistent with industry accepted drafting practices and company standards. Assignments are executed under the direction of a senior engineer, Lead engineer, or Group Head to meet the manufacturing schedule. Additional responsibilities are outlined in the job description and as assigned by the Lead or Group Head.


Candidate must have a thorough working knowledge of Catia V5. Experience with AutoCad and PLM/PDM software such as SmarTeam or Enovia is preferred. Business aviation completions experience desired.


Education and Experience Requirements

Associate's Degree in drafting, design, engineering, manufacturing technology required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. 4 years related experience. Working knowledge of computer-aided design systems and personal computing systems. Working knowledge of engineering, engineering procedures and design drawing standards.

Position Purpose:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of engineering tasks in specialized areas, receiving general instructions as to the tasks required. and the expected results. Prepares and maintains electronic datasets for engineering drawings.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:
  • Applies knowledge of design and drafting principles, guidelines, specifications and standards to create electronic layouts, sketches, models, and drawings.

  • Prepares bills of material by collating and investigating engineering parts and information such as part numbers, manufacturing data and company standards.

  • Utilizes the appropriate data sources such as vendor specifications, engineering vault data, data files or computer resources.

  • Clarifies the intended purpose of the change with the initiator and produces drawings, bills of material and supporting documentation related to the revision.

  • Performs self-checks and electronic validations to ensure accuracy of product prior to subsequent check procedures.

  • Ensures the integrity of diagrams, drawings and bills of material. .

  • Resolves discrepancies in engineering data by analyzing drawings and parts lists.

  • Proposes, obtains consensus and implements agreed-upon solutions.

  • Prepares and incorporates design revisions by collecting and organizing technical engineering information.

  • Follows established procedures to produce and revise electronic datasets. .

Additional Functions:
  • Exchanges information with Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering and Engineering. .

  • Provides technical assistance to junior designers. .

Perform other duties as assigned.
