Job Description

The social media coordinator/content creator for the College of Natural Resources and Environment will be responsible for creating written and visual content for and maintaining the college’s social media platforms. The individual will also produce digital content such as photography, video, graphics, website content, and digital signage for other college communications channels. Functions as an integral member of the college’s Communications Team, which develops and implements projects to achieve the strategic priories of the university, the college, and the Office of Advancement. Coordinates projects from concept to completion, while adhering to university and college social media best practices, branding policies, and university and AP style conventions.

  • Demonstrated writing and editing experience and demonstrated knowledge of usage, grammar, punctuation, and other mechanics of writing.
  • Demonstrated experience developing social media content for a group or organization and experience coordinating multiple social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Adobe products such as Photoshop, Express, InDesign, Illustrator, and Premier.
  • Demonstrated experience using Google Drive and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently with little supervision as well as operate in a team-based environment.
  • Must provide writing, photography, and design samples to be specified at the time of interview.

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field or the equivalent level of training and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with photography and/or video production.
  • Demonstrated experience with graphic design.
  • Demonstrated experience using the Virginia Tech Style Guide and/or AP Style Guide.
