POSITION SUMMARY
The SNAP Outreach Coordinator is responsible for Hawaii Foodbank’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Outreach efforts on O’ahu. This includes 3 key activities: 1) pre-screening and application/recertification assistance in-person or over the phone, 2) training of partner agency staff and volunteers and community partners to provide SNAP Outreach, and 3) informational social media outreach and informational cards/flyers to be distributed at partner agencies and distribution events. It may also include developing, coordinating, and conducting related education sessions and assisting households to apply for, maintain, and understand how to utilize their SNAP benefits. The SNAP Outreach Coordinator helps to address food insecurity with populations in line with the values and goals of the department.

The Coordinator is a member of the Impact Team, working closely with peers to advance the strategic work of the Foodbank and is involved with food drives, events, and other projects, as assigned. The Coordinator must demonstrate an active commitment to Hawaii Foodbank’s mission in all aspects of daily work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Maintain current knowledge and understanding of the SNAP application process and provide all direct SNAP clients with eligibility prescreening, application and recertification assistance, and conduct SNAP interviews.
  • Conduct in-person application assistance clinics, as well as periodically offering in-person assistance at other events such as health fairs and other program relevant events.
  • Manage HFB’s assistance hotline, which includes answering questions about eligibility and program access for SNAP or other nutrition programs, helping clients determine next steps and options to resolve issues, and making referrals to relevant resources.
  • Adhere to protocols regarding security and confidentiality to protect personal client information.
  • Provide on-going training to Hawaii Foodbank’s food partner agencies throughout Oahu to conduct SNAP eligibility prescreening and application or recertification assistance in their own communities.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with member agencies and other organizations that may be helpful in identifying prospective clients or may provide the opportunity and venue to do SNAP outreach.
  • Create and distribute SNAP Outreach materials and identify new opportunities for outreach, including digital materials for social media outreach on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and others.
  • Grow a network of community partners who provide outreach and assistance for public nutrition programs such as SNAP, helping to increase access to programs across the state. This may include those in healthcare, local food and agriculture, senior services, and more.
  • Educate community partners on the importance of SNAP in Hawai’i through conferences, presentations, and coalition work.
  • Work with the SNAP Outreach Manager to ensure that messaging and outreach strategies are informed by individuals with lived expertise of food insecurity and navigating public nutrition programs.
  • Work with SNAP Outreach team to build and maintain database of SNAP client testimonials to support SNAP outreach efforts.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the public nutrition programs including eligibility, application procedures, state and federal policies impacting the programs, and common access barriers.
  • Provide input on the planning, implementation, and evaluation of HFB’s SNAP Outreach program.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • As a member of the Impact Team, will be actively engaged with Hawaii Foodbank activities, to include the Annual Food Drive Day.
  • Comply with all federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • With team, present recommendations and assist in implementing quality initiatives.
  • Provide support on any other program related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Individuals with lived experience of food insecurity and navigating public assistance programs is preferred.
  • An Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution in Education, Communication, Social Work or another related field or a high school diploma or equivalent with 1-3 years of nonprofit, human/social services, and/or community service experience.
  • While not a requirement of the position, being bilingual or multilingual is preferred.

EQUIPMENT, SOFTWARE, MACHINES, TOOLS, VEHICLES USED

· Ability to use a computer workstation, including keyboard, mouse, glide/track pad, printer, copier, scanner, fax, and communication systems (including internal VOIP system, online meeting/communication systems, mobile systems, etc.).

· Proficient computer software skills (Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, etc.).

· Insured vehicle with valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

· Requires driving for off-site day, evening and weekend meetings and events. It is essential that the SNAP Outreach Coordinator have reliable transportation and be willing to travel. Travel reimbursement is provided.

· Requires the use of computer, mobile, telephonic, etc. equipment.

· The noise level ranges from quiet to moderate to loud at times.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
