Overview:
Presbyterian Homes & Services is seeking a Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer to join its leadership team.

The senior vice president and chief human resources officer (SVP/CHRO) is the ‘chief people architect’ responsible for envisioning the future of workforce and creating an environment that cultivates an ownership mindset at all levels of the organization. This leader will also empower individuals to fulfill our mission of “honoring God by enriching the lives and touching the hearts of older adults.”

The SVP/CHRO is responsible for the design and implementation of operating models and structure (process, policy, and technology) to support the alignment of people, strategies and culture that attract and develop employees who embody and extend Christian culture in all they do. Additionally, this position is responsible for developing value-based leaders who can create a shared vision that delivers results for the organization. The ultimate purpose of this position is to “create smiles in the eyes of people we serve” by fulfilling Presbyterian Homes’ mission and operating philosophies.

This position is a key member of PHS leadership team and will oversee human resources functions including but not limited to talent acquisition and management, onboarding, training and development, succession planning, compensation, benefits, health and wellness, payroll, employee relations, human resource technology, performance management and compliance.

Reporting Structure

The SVP/CHRO reports to the chief executive officer and works collaboratively with the PHS executive team, management staff, site leaders and functional directors of assigned areas of accountability.
This position will have significant responsibility for shaping the human resources functions and structure to deliver on our mission and meet business needs.
Responsibilities:
All position responsibilities are considered essential functions of this position.
  • Create and articulate vision and strategies that cultivate an ownership mindset at all levels of the organization.
  • Envision and deploy workforce strategies that meet the long-term needs of the organization and reduce utilization of third-party employees.
  • Position PHS as an “employer of choice” attracting workers in a tight labor market.
  • Create an environment that encourages andenables the integration of Christian culture for PHS workforce utilizing PHS key values.
  • Consult and coach the CEO and executive leaders on people-related matters including but not limited to organizational development, organizational design, talent and succession planning, performance management and organizational effectiveness.
  • Ensure strategic alignment, design, and management of all human resources functions, including building people and leadership capabilities and culture, organization development, talent acquisition, talent management, onboarding, strategic workforce and succession planning, compensation , benefits and wellness, employee relations, human resource technology, payroll, compliance, people data and analytics.
  • Oversee the design and development of organization-wide talent identification, leadership development and succession planning tools and processes.
  • Advocate for and implement technology and lean methodology that enable delivery of human resources functions.
  • Serve as institutional leader on all matters of diversity and inclusion, actively seeking new ideas, experiences and thought leaders to create programs, opportunities and pathways for staff.
  • Orchestrate employee benefit offerings to maximize value for the employee while effectively managing costs through innovative program ideas. This includes vendor/contract negotiations, benchmarking, benefit plan design changes, establishing competitive and cost effective employee/employer premium ratios , educating the workforce, and ensuring the effective use of technology in benefits administration.
  • Ensure policies, procedures and guidelines support PHS being an “employer of choice” while maintaining compliance with regulations and established best practices.
  • Support other areas as identified to foster aligned goal setting and achievement as driven by the president/CEO.
Qualifications:
  • Commitment to embody and extend PHS’ mission and operating philosophies.
  • A personal spiritual belief system that is compatible with and promotes the spiritual heritage of the organization.
  • Ability to think strategically, collaborate with others at all levels of the institution, build consensus, influence decisions, manage change, articulate priorities and implement human resources programs that reflect PHS’ mission and goals.
  • Demonstrated success in talent recruitment, development and retention
    in high volume, critical environments, building workforce strength in very tight labor markets.
  • Executive leadership team experience, as well as experience presenting vision and strategy, people-related consultation and coaching to executive team and CEO.
  • High degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making, along with being able to analyze situations accurately and take effective action.
  • Proven track record of executing anddelivering on strategic HR initiatives with a deep understanding of ‘best-in-class’ human resources concepts, practices, and processes, ensuring HR’s contribution to the organization’s operational, financial and growth success.
  • Experience with leadership development/ talent identification systems and tools. Demonstrated staff and individual development experience.
  • Experience in executive hiring and onboarding.
  • Strong leadership and communication competencies. Has the ability to express ideas clearly and persuasively, and is diplomatic/politically aware as needed.
  • Effective working knowledge of federal, state, labor and employment laws that serve as the foundation for human resources policy and practice. Demonstrated ability to interpret, understand, and apply laws and regulations related to employment, benefits administration and employee relations in large and complex organizations.
  • Minimum 15+ years in progressively responsible human resources or operations management roles, culminating in a business unit/function leadership role.
  • Experience in a mid-sized hospitality, service, or health care organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in business administration (MBA) or related area highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other common computer programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
