Role Overview

Under limited supervision, the incumbent provides technical support in the design, development, debugging/testing, and assembly of new or existing products.

Work Location: Onsite: 72 Spring Lane, Farmington, CT

Key Responsibilities

  • Defines and conducts engineering experiments and tests, collects test data, reduces the data, and writes final reports summarizing the experiments and tests to meet an established schedule. Includes off-site testing.

  • Develops and documents new test methods and plans.

  • Responsible for ensuring test methods meet all applicable internal and external specifications and standards.

  • Assembles new product prototypes for engineering evaluation, life testing, or customer evaluation.Prototypes must meet all specifications required by the engineer and must be completed within an established time frame.

  • Performs detailed troubleshooting and problem analysis of product or process.

  • Designs fixtures required for product verification and validation testing.

  • Recommends improvement to the test lab, this includes the maintenance and operation of the equipment in the lab, equipment planning, cleanliness and neatness, procuring supplies, tooling/fixture storage, and training.

  • Prioritizes and schedules testing and to optimize lab performance.

  • Actively pursues continuous improvement of the test lab.

  • Helps develop procedures and processes that result in more reliable designs, more designs that can be manufactured, and techniques that enable designs to be brought to market more quickly.

  • Effectively communicates information to co-workers, customers, and suppliers which they require to do their jobs.

  • 100% attendance of all provided HSE training sessions

  • Participate in all provided HSE training.

  • Recognize and report hazards.

  • Continually seek ways to improve personal performance related to Health, Safety and Environmental protection.

  • Performance other tasks as required.

Critical Competencies for Success

**Education and Experience**

  • Bachelor degree in a technical field and minimum of 1 year applicable experience in test lab or comparable setting OR a minimum of 10 years of applicable experience in a test lab or comparable setting.

Skills and Competencies

  • Working knowledge of pneumatics and electronics and laboratory equipment including pressurized air sources and delivery systems, pressure and flow measurement equipment and electronic measuring devices.

  • Working knowledge of measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, digital readout devices and multi-meters.Working knowledge of shop equipment including lathes, mills and hand tools

  • Proficient in shop mathematics including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry is required.Knowledge of statistics, reliability analysis, and design of experiments. Reliability and Confidence testing calculations based on Weibull analysis

  • Proficient in mechatronics setup, LabVIEW, Automation, Datalogging, Programming to run automated test setups, troubleshooting existing mechatronics equipment and programs

  • Ability to handle tasks in an environment that can be stressful at times.Accept responsibility for assignments and have the tenacity to drive these assignments to successful conclusion.

  • Positively communicate with customers internally and externally to address their needs promptly and follow through on commitments.

  • Ability to write technical reports, business correspondence, and procedures.

  • Ability to effectively present information in terms of test reports, presentations, analysis and respond to questions from subordinates, peers, managers, and customers.

  • Knowledge of Quality system and standards.

Computers and Technology

  • Ability to use industry standard personal computers (PCs) and PC applications including Excel, Power Pointand Word.

  • Must be able to perform effective searches on the internet for procurement of test fixture supplies.

  • Knowledge of DAQ Data Collection system is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of Commercial Vehicle, Rail, Industrial Automation systems and applications is desired.

  • Knowledge of electrical theory and applications.
