Title of Position: Senior Director Behavioral Health

Position Type: Full Time

Pay Range: Starting pay is $109,990.40 - $123,198.40, annually and considers preferred experience and preferred education described below.

Location: Montrose, CO


Description of Responsibilities: This position is responsible for the clinical operation of assigned programs that includes Behavioral Health. The Senior Director of Clinical Behavioral Health provides leadership, system program creation and evaluation as well as clinical strategy for the assigned programs. The Senior Director of Clinical Behavioral Health is responsible for critical decisions and must be able to effectively communicate strategy, prioritize projects, and ensure ongoing monitoring of projects and clinical care are in place. The Senior Director of Behavioral Health Community Services also will provide expertise for AHS policy and programming. The Senior Director of Clinical Behavioral Health be able to help identify, develop, and sustain behavioral health programming that addresses community needs.


Supervisory responsibilities: Yes


Physical demands: Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Employee is frequently required to walk, sit, stand or kneel and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop. Must have ability to sit for longer periods at a computer. Employee must be able to travel between AHS locations. Possible potential exposure to communicable disease. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. AHS may make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Required Education Licensure and Experience:

  • Education: Graduate degree in one of the recognized mental health professions.
  • Licensure: Licensed in the State of Colorado as LPC, LMFT, LCSW or Psychologist
  • Experience: Five (5) years of post-graduate clinical experience in a healthcare setting.
  • The experience must include at least five (5) years of administrative and/or supervisory experience.

Preferred Education:

  • Education: D. in a related field

  • Must be knowledgeable regarding patient health information and HIPAA compliance.
  • Must be organized and demonstrate the ability to follow guidelines.
  • Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to be self-directed.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to follow the organization’s confidentiality and security rules.

Required Skills:

  • Must be a self-starter, self-motivator and possess exceptional organizational, time management and project management skills with the ability to inspire and model collaborative leadership.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly, concisely (both orally and written) with staff members, the public and other audiences.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of management, healthcare and community systems and be adaptable and resilient with regard to change.
  • Must be capable of independent judgment and action that recognizes his/her role and responsibilities in representing the values and mission of AHS.
  • Ability to design and implement processes, workflows and new initiatives within the budgeting and resource allocations available, working accurately in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to manage and deliver on multiple priorities and delivery clear and comprehensive reports.
  • Ability to work independently while delegating authority and responsibilities to appropriate levels.
  • Ability to understand and delivery excellent quality of care aligned with compliance of all contracts and requirements.
  • Demonstrate skills in creating a cohesive teamwork environment and a culture of accountability, customer service and fiscal responsibility in day-to-day operations.
  • Ability to design, manage, monitor and modify internal systems
  • Knowledge of accounting system designs, controls and budgeting with the ability to provide data driven analysis and recommendations.
  • Must have current driver’s license and ability to be commercially insured and maintain a driving record that allows insurability with AHS commercial insurance agency.
  • Ability to take on additional duties when necessary and/or as requested.
  • Occasional travel required.

Additional eligibility requirements:

  • Annual Flu immunization
  • Annual TB screening
  • CPI training within 90 days of hire
  • BLS certification required within 90 days of hire
