Scheduling Coordinator - VHH Orthopedic Surgery Clinic
Job description
The Surgery Scheduler schedules patient surgeries. Obtains authorizations and pre-authorization for surgical services. Schedules ancillary appointments as necessary for patients. Ensures patient charts are prepared prior to surgery including x-rays and pertinent lab work. Makes arrangements for any special equipment as needed. Reviews and codes charge slips for patient care services and/or surgical services rendered. Maintains files and records, including supporting documentation for insurance claims. Maintains master surgery calendar for physician(s). Oversees equipment and office supply inventory. Reads all incoming mail, prioritizing and distributing as appropriate. May be assigned fill in with MA duties as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education: Required: • High School Graduate or GED. Preferred: • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. • Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma if a Medical Assistant. Minimum Experience/Knowledge: Required: • Minimum one-year medical office management, medical secretarial or medical assisting experience. • Experience in customer service and/or medical office. • Combined education/experience may be substituted for minimum experience. • Must have excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read and write English proficiently. • Medical Assistant preferred Required License/Certification: Required: • Fire and Safety Certification if assigned clinic is located within the city of Los Angeles. If employee does not have card upon hire one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. Preferred: • If a Medical Assistant, BLS for Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association is required.
