JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective
The General Rigger (Scaffold E&D Carpenter) facilitates the installation of fixed scaffolding and swing stage scaffolding. A scaffold builder is required to work as a member of an erection & dismantling crew and will build and dismantle scaffolds in accordance with company policies and OSHA standards, at the request of Stone Mountain Access customers by performing the following duties:

Essential Functions

  • Load trucks from SMA with proper materials for job as directed.
  • Transport equipment to and from worksites in SMA owned vehicles.
  • Build scaffold properly and in accordance with common practices and OSHA standards
  • Assist in the movement of equipment on and off truck and to the job site.

  • Align, level and anchor equipment.
  • Perform proper work area preparation prior to start the erection, modification or dismantle of scaffolding and keep good housekeeping.
  • Installing toe boards, guardrails, ladders, etc. on scaffold structures and cantilevers.
  • Ability to identify hazards and safety risks and complete a Job Safety Analysis to control and mitigate those hazards.
  • Observe safe practices and use proper climbing techniques.
  • Communicate efficiently and respectfully with team members

Supervisory Responsibility

No direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work near moving mechanical parts or in high, precarious positions. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud up to 35% of the time. This position is performed in all weather conditions.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, first shift, 40 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel
Occasional day and overnight travel is expected for this position.

Education and Experience

2-5 years related experience in construction industry and/or building scaffolding preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to speak, read and write English required.

Math Skills

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100ss. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one – or two – step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Computer Skills

None required for this position.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations

Driver’s license preferred.

Some positions may require a Class B license.
